Default Shifter Poll

Now that the shift knob has appeared to go along with the 8 speed transmissions in our trucks, it seems that we have reached an impasse amongst groups:

Those who like the knob, and seem to be convinced that the majority prefers it.

Those who like the old console floor shifter, and seem to be convinced that the majority prefers it.

The column shifter crowd who seems to less vehemently pine for the return of their shifter. I know there are some of you out there so you get a say in the poll too.

Have at it boys and girls, choose your side in the poll!

I know that bother the new Charger & Challenger have the 8 speed & floor console shifter

maybe someone will come up with something for the Rams

I sat in a 2014 Ram yesterday, looked at the Rotary shifter knob & forgot to look at the steering wheel shifter buttons
I will be checking the dealership again next week maybe, they said that they had some 2015 Rams currently in transit

^^^^ One of the reasons why I prefer the rotary knob. The buttons are easier and just make more sense then moving the shifter to the left. I still Liked the look and feel of the shifter tho.

I still like the old school floor shifter, but I'm an old school drag racer.
Manual shifting is easier with one hand on the wheel, one on the shifter
...not pushing buttons with your thumb.

I also prefer the quick down shifts when engine braking
especially on winter roads in 4WD instead of just using the brakes.

Dash knob belongs in a soccer mom mini van, (IMHO)

They should have at least made the console shift an option for the Sports and R/T's.

The knob took some getting used to, but I prefer it now.

Unless it's a stick shift - it's just an extra stick in the way.

^^^ That shifter looks really awesome....would look better in a manual. Maybe it was just my truck but I never really found the gear +/- with the shifter worked all that great. I never found it to be quick and there would be times id slap it over to shift up and it did not shift up lol. I know its not EXACLTY a trip tronic type thing but I have owned a couple of those "sport shift" automatics and I was underwhelmed with how the RAM one worked...for me anyways. I DO agree it should be an option to have either tho.

It only works instantly for down shifts, provided you are in a safe rpm range.

The upshift just limits the highest gear it will go to,
(bump shifter until EVIC reads 4 and it will not go into 5th gear)

It will run right up to the rev limiter in 4th and not change to the next gear.

It's not a true manual shift, its an ERS (Electronic Range Selector)
