Default MIL illuminated

Leaving work tonight the MIL (check engine) light came on. The truck doesnt seem to be making use of MDS, either.

Of course the dealer was closed. Any quick/dirty suggestions?

Thanks,

First off whenever the check engine light is on the truck will not use MDS.

Secondly I am not sure anyone can really offer any advice unless the truck was driving differently. Your best bet will be getting it to the dealer or somewhere that can read the codes.

Good luck.

take it to Napa, Autozone, or any of those chains and they can read the codes for you. Typically for free. Without codes, its a giant crap shoot. Fingers crossed for an easy fix for you.

Thanks, dealer it is...Monday. I just was in there, Wednesday, for an oil change.

Annoying that the EVIC doesn;t show OBD codes.

Turns out to be much ado about nothing - the gas cap was loose (perhaps someone had been messing with it) - I had noticed that on Saturday when I refueled. Cleared the code, tested, OK. Why the system doesn't check on startup to see if the same condition exists, and clear itself, I don't know. Poor software design.

I had the rear pinion nut recall inspection done at the same time, so thats finally done.
