Default At whits end, lights dimming.

I have a "small" system in my truck right now that is over wired for what it is. I have 2 amps a 1000w Alpine mono sub pushing 2 12's and a 180wx4 Kenwood pushing the door speakers as for a head unit I am using a Pioneer AppRadio2. The amps are not running at max, and I see the dimming at half volume on the head unit. On a heavy bass line the headlights dim. As for wiring I am using 1/0 power and ground from an Optima blue top to junction blocks. I am using 4ga to connect the Alpine amp to the block, and 8 ga to connect the Kenwood all within the requirements for the amps. I have went as far as adding a 3 farad cap in parallel to the blocks. I have also done the big 3 upgrade with 4ga wire alt to battery, and battery to frame to engine. I have verified all connections are tight and clean and am still getting the dimming. Does anyone know what I should try next to eliminate the issue?

Bigger alternator because you are pushing the limits of your alternator when you actually "use" the setup you've got here?

You are out of power and need a high out put alternator. If you do not upgrade the alternator you will burn-up the brushes or worse. Go out and see how hot your alternator gets trying to keep up.

Which one do you recommend? I was running the same system off a stock 92 Chevrolet alternator with the same setup before I had bought this truck.

Well first check and see what you have. Secondly these newer trucks have a lot more electronics than older ones so that mind set it worked before won't cut it.

Check to see if there is a bigger alternator from the heavy duties you can get. Otherwise just let your finger tips do the walking and see what you find on the internet.

Take your truck to a alternator shop and ask them how to get more amps out of your alternator or if you need a larger output alternator. They can tell you the best way to go.
