BTW, that DMax w/Allison is a sweet combo!!
I only tow a 10 to 15 times a year and the Dmax I have is a 2003. It is getting long in the tooth and the towing capacity on the 2003 duramax 2500 with 5 speed Allison, isn't any more then the 2014, 2500 ram with a 6.4 hemi.
I just could not justify the maintenance cost or initial cost of another diesel for my limited seasonal towing (own a Christmas wreath business).
I am only loaded 1 way on my wreath deliveries. I towed my 10k trailer probably 10 times last year with a 5.7 Toyota and my trips we roughly costing me only about $30.00 more then towing with my diesel. I run about 800 to 1000 miles round trip....
So, I tossed it around pretty hard and decided on this as the best route. In 3 to 5 years when I finally replace my DMAX (keeping it as a second vehicle for now and back-up to the 6.4 hemi) I will probably get a single cab work truck diesel to replace the seasonal towing duties if the 2500 6.4 does not fare well.
On a side note, I have the lb7 Duramax and injectors already had me replacing 1 engine at the tune of $11k, 5 k miles out of warranty.
