Default 2010 Hemi "Tick"

Hey,

Guys new to the forum because I have a concern about my truck. I have a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi with about 50K miles on the clock. I seem to have developed a tick on the passenger side. I crawled under there thinking maybe it was an exhaust leak, but It doesn't seem to be. I'm thinking maybe lifters.

The sound is apparent when the car has been off for a little while and goes away completely as the car is full warm and running.

What could be the problem? Are bad lifters common on the Hemi?

A big welcome to da ClubZ! And No, bad lifters aren't common, but it can happen to some. What you described could possibly be broken exhaust manifold studs. You'll have to remove the heat shields to get a closer look and inspection of such area. Good luck bud and we want pics of your BadAss Camaro Z man.

+ 2 on the exhaust manifold bolts being broken. It's a curse of the Hemi engine. I have not owned a Hemi engine where this didn't happen! Can you say "Engineering Design Flaw" boys and girls! Also, depending on the vehicle, it's a much more extensive repair than it should be! On our 04 Durango the repair was so significant we just learned to live with it. Good luck.

If the tick only lasted about 15 to 30 seconds & went away after that
i would have to say that you should change over to synthetic oil

otherwise i would have to agree with the others
broken exhaust manifold studs or in my case, a cracked exhaust manifold

I will check it out further. Yes the sound goes away when it's fully warmed up.

Stupid question - I had a tick ( same thing when cold) went away when warm! I got pissed at it and change the oil to 5W30 for around 200 miles - then changed it back to 5W20 and the tick has not come back??? Now everyone I talked to said the truck would blow up - the MDS would die a horrible death - in plain English - the world would come to an abrupt end!!! Well nothing happened, and on a side note the engine never sounded better or ran as well as when on the 5W30! Even mileage seemed to increase - maybe because I was driving it more conservative since the world as I knew the world was going to end? So, the stupid question is - why can't the Hemi be ran on a slightly thicker grade of oil? An increase of 5 weight is not that substancial if you look at the Spec sheets of a good grade oil? The truck has 75,000 miles on it and does get a work out in the summer hauling a 7100 lb holiday trailer up and down the roads @ 70 MPH.
And all of this with the stock diff nut. Maybe some Oil Guru can explain it to an ole redneck mechanic?

So the exhaust manifold bolts break? Would that be a good time to have headers put on and are there replacements that will not break in the future?
