Default Adding the back up camera

My 2012 does not have the back up camera but I'd like to add it. I have the correct head unit and know after install I have to have the dealer unlock the feature. The part number is 82211184, I was told this is the same part for all 4th gen. Does that mean if I install this and have it programmed the tailgate will now also have the electronic tailgate lock? Or is that a separate part all together?

You will need to buy a tailgate handle with 2 holes, 1 for the camera, 1 for the lock

Some people have drilled out their current blank tailgate & i think they have trouble with the camera when it rains & water sort of blinds the lens

I didn't go with the electric lock, mine is a standard lock because that was all Dodge had back in 2009, except maybe on the special order Laramies

The only electric tailgates locks that a customer could buy back around 2009 - 10 was
http://www.pace-edwards.com/Tailgate-Locks

The only other lock back then was made by Pop-n-Lock & it was real easy to open a locked tailgate when a truck owner used a Pop-n-Lock
You just had to lift the handle with some force & it would lift over the top of the locking mechanism

The tailgate camera will work with any Dodge touch screen radio from 2009 - 2012

The non touch screen radio trucks had no choice by to use a high priced rear view mirror monitor, it almost cheaper to upgrade the radio

Oh, so the camera does not come with a new handle? What a bummer. I'm OK with the standard lock, but when I read the information on Dodges site it seemed like the handle was included and with the update the lock was now electronic. I'll have to start searching for a new handle.

The camera kit does come with the handle, (mine did, same part number). I installed the power tailgate lock at the same time, Dodge Ram Tailgate Power Lock - 82211668AB, well worth it since I have a trifold cover, it's nice to know its locked when i walk away

Thanks jawz! I'll have to order that to. Is there any additional programming for the power lock or does it tap off of the door locks?

It is good to read that you can now get the handle in the kit

No programming needed for the power lock, it does tap off the door locks

Did you happen to do the install yourself? I haven't downloaded the PDF file yet but to my knowledge the wires are already there, its just a matter of plugging in the camera and then the reflash?

Yes, I did it myself. I haven't heard of trucks being pre-wired, mine wasn't. I had to run the wires for both the camera and lock from the back to the front of the truck and splice them into the factory harness. The camera signal wires also need to be run into the cab and connected to the back of the radio. There are a few threads on here on how to do it, i followed those and it went pretty smooth

You might try searching for the tailgate lock install and the back up camera also.

There have been some excellent posts here on how to install both. Step by step articles with pictures and electrical hook up. I used both when I installed my camera and power lock tailgate.
