Default Did I kill my truck?

My radio was replaced today under warranty which means I have to copy all of my CDs to the HDD again. For the last, oh.. about five hours or so, I have been loading a CD, selecting to copy to the HDD and then going back inside where it's warm. I'd set an alarm on my phone and go out and change the CD and repeat the process every 15-20 minutes. I have had the key in the On, but engine not running setting (one click from actually running the engine).

My alarm just went off so I go out to switch the CDs and I find the radio off. I try to turn it on, nothing. The EVIC is still lit up. I remove the key and reinsert and turn the key to the same setting again and nothing.. but I do get a bright flash from the EVIC saying something about the Trailer Brake Control being disconnected and the brake controller is flashing red on its own display. I try to turn the truck on and nothing. Uhm. Not to sound like an idiot, but... did I drain my battery?

I think not
I run my radio for several hours at a time, because i am out in the middle of no where, waiting on a truck to cross into the USA from Mexico

The only thing that has ever happened, was that i did not turn the key off, before i started it up, it set off a code

Now when a semi truck is crossing the border, i turn the key all the way off for a couple seconds, then i start my Ram, flip on the orange rotating lights & the CB radio & i don't get any crazy lights on the dash

Turns out I drained the battery. I got out my handy dandy portable jump starter and she started right up. I idled for about 30 minutes to ensure a charge. I don't think I'll be doing that again. Guess I'll copy the remaining CDs to the HDD on my eight hour drive to Cheyenne on Thursday.

I was told by a Tech, that the 4th Gen Rams, either can not or will not COMPLETELY recharge a dead or weak battery by just running the engine
It will only put a SURFACE CHARGE on the battery
to put a DEEP CHARGE on that battery, you need to put it on a battery charger for a couple hours
something about the way the regulator works with the alternator, when it comes to fully charging the battery

Why don't you just copy the music to a thumb drive and insert it in the usb slot and copy to hdd.

This is what I would do. Using your computer you can rip each CD, then transfer them to a USB drive, you can even organize the files into what ever folders you want, AND update the song info such as artist, title, genre, etc

Then it's a matter of plugging it into the radio in the truck and following the prompts to upload everything. It's a lot faster than ripping from a CD, and a lot less trouble to boot

The USB ports scare me honestly. They are the reason my old radio was replaced - they never recognized an inserted USB flash drive.

Here is some info that might help

1) If you want to upload any pictures to the HD, then you need to have at least 1 MP3 on the flash drive.
2) Pictures can only be uploaded by using the radio USB connector and not the Uconnect USB.
3) Podcast can not be played if that the flash drive doesn't have at least 1 MP3 file on it.
4) The USB connector can play MP3, MP4, WMA, WAV, AAC files from either USB connector.
5) The Uconnect USB will not read JPG files at all. Only the radio USB will.
6) The "Uconnect" is a separate system in the radios
7) The flash drives do need to be formatted to FAT32. This is the only file that can be read by the radio or Uconnect.
8) Flash Drives must be less than 32gb

others report the following:
1. Any USB stick under 32 GB will work.
2. Files must be in .mp3 format.
3. There must be at least one .jpg file on the stick. The tech couldn't explain why.
4. The USB stick must be in FAT32 file format. All USB sticks come this way by default.

Hope this helps
Some have indicated that they got up to 2gb
