Default Range to empty....really? mebbe not...

Noticed the "range to empty" number changes whilst driving...up/down....noticed the MPG "meter" also tends to do silly things.....while "readjusting" itself, it can read 0-99...and anything inbetween....my Lincoln does the same thing, except the manual explains that in order for the thing to "properly calculate" your range it needs to be driven at a steady pace for a few miles, preferably on cruise, with no hills....I suspect the same software is driving this....it doesnt know (or care) that yer driving up hill with a load o bricks...itll assume thats what itll be doing for the rest of the tankful.....or something....Im glad they didnt do away with the gas gauge...as inaccurate as THAT may be.....

Even with baffles to silence movement, the fuel level varies in the tank giving the level sensor the heebee jeebies. Don't let your fuel level get down so low that your engine starts sucking in the 'dregs' of the tank. The tank is so darn large that there is no excuse to run precariously low.

If you have been driving around town for a while & fill up, you may see something like
360 miles until empty & then you get on the highway & after about 10 miles at a given speed, you will see the read out change to maybe as much as 75 miles higher

i have the Hemi & the big tank, sometimes i fill up & see 450 miles to empty, if i drive a distance on a highway & then fill up, i see as much as 526 miles until empty

in town you don't usually have much use for the MDS & your driving conditions determine what kind of estimated mileage you get

The subject of this thread was more of a heads up for some who never had this "feature"...yeh, you have to drive a few miles, steadily, on flat ground, for a so-called accurate reading...but then...change your driving style for conditions, and that changes too....point is, anyone reads that number as accurate or etched in stone, is making a mistake....

BTW, with so many folks ordering larger tanks (including me) i prefer not to let it get that lo...something about the thing ringing up $100+ i still find unsettling....oh well.....

I find it kinda nice for longer trips. Can set the cruise and go. Then you can bump it up or down and after awhile--see the change in how far you can go show up. Proabably not perfectly accurate but gives you some indication of how things change with different speeds.

Speaking of 32 gallon tanks, I learned to use the bathroom wherever I find one before going out with the new truck. That big tank dwarfs my "little tank" so be certain you check out the local head before starting your trip. That new Ram is like the EverReady battery bunny...it keeps going and going and going.....

The most I ever saw after a fill up on the EVIC was 538 DTE.

Not even close.....

Filled up after my oil change today and saw 528 miles. "Great Expectations" if you ask me.
On the way home the computer showed 22.9 mpg today.

now THATS what I call "unintended consequences"...I really appreciate the bucket (seats that is)...not merely comfortable "for a truck"...theyre comfortable enough for anything....
