Default Highway hop

Hi all, appreciate any advice on following:

I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie, about 4 months old with 5k. In the event that any of the following additional options matter, I also have the optional Air Suspension, 20" wheels, 8-Speed tranny.

After about 3k miles, a very strange "shimmy" developed at upper highway speeds (65 - 75). I would characterize more as a very quick, and short, rapid hoppy feeling, kind of like going over a washboard, but it isn't as dramatic as that would feel. My wife feels it also in the passenger seat. The steering wheel doesn't shake at all, and I don't feel, that "hula" that I've felt when a tire was out of balance.

I went to the dealer and they did originally diagnose an out of round wheel, which was replaced. They did not replace the tire. It seemed to get better, but not fully corrected.

I have since put completely new tires on (Goodyear Silent Armors). The sensation is still there, but it seems to kind of come and go ( which has me totally mystified).

I've scoured this forum and have seen folks recommend u-joints or tie rods, but I'm having a hard time convincing my dealer to do much of anything. I need some real advice on how to proceed, because this is driving me absolutely mad.

Thanks in advance.

Since the problem is still there, I'd either try another dealer or go back to the tire dealer. He could verify a wheel or tire problem. Good luck, Lobo.

Dealer just called and will take her in for another visit next week. Cannot be the wheels or tires, given the changes made. I'm starting to suspect the MDS or something in the suspensiojn.

Just went thru this. It ended up being the tires. I was running General Grabbers and no matter how many times they were balanced the shake was still there. I bit the bullet and put 4 Michelin LTX MS and problem gone. The truck drives perfect.

a couple of other people have mentioned when MDS kicks in they get an odd vibration/shimmy.

try driving in manual mode or however the newer trucks get away with running without MDS on and see if it persists.

ask your dealership IF they used a HUNTER ROAD FORCE BALANCE MACHINE to check the wheels & tires, a lot of dealerships have them. All the better tire stores have it
Sullivan Tire Co Inc, Tire Warehouse, Firestone, Meineke

===========================================

does your Ram have a bar that goes from side to side in back bottom of the rear differential

the one in the pix is the stock anti sway bar
this is a better one, compare pricing
http://www.suspensionconnection.com/...-sway-bar.html

the only other thing that i can think of that it could be would be the shock absorbers, but yours are new & no where where near 50,000 miles old

Default Still there

Thanks everyone for the ideas and input. I've replaced the tires, and been back three times to verify they are still in balance, yes the balance was Road Force. It isn't the MDS, I've turned it off and it's still there. I've disabled the Aero mode on the Air Suspension, still there. The dealer has supposedly checked every piece and part of the suspension and cannot find a problem, but it's still there.

The only other thing that is an option from the dealer is to instrument the back end with a trembler to see fi they can find a harmonic or something going on.

I am beyond frustrated and quite honestly sick of the whole thing. I've had trucks most of my life and never had issues like this. It is quite safe to say that aside from how much I love how this truck looks, I hate how it rides and cannot get past it.

As much as I hate to say it, this may be my first and last Ram truck. My experience has jaded me significantly on this vehicle.
