Default Towing and your Temps!

I don't know if there has been a thread like this but I thought I would give it a try..

I am wanting to get feedback from fellow members FOR other members to see what the average towing temps might be. I know temps will vary depending on where you are, what you are towing, and how fast you were traveling. I am just interested in seeing what temps we have out there across the board.

That being said this is how I want to set it up and other members who want to contribute to this please follow this format or add to it as needed. Would love to have pictures as well!!

Please know this isn't restricted to 4th Gen trucks.. if you have a way to read these temps on the 3rd Gen or older please post of your temps! All temperatures are while towing throughout the trip.

Truck: 2009 Ram 1500
In-Tow: U-Haul 6X12 Enclosed trailer
Distance: 1600 miles
Terran: Mountains/Flat roads (at times)

Temps:

Coolant- Average:197 Peak:206
Oil- Average:208 Peak:215
Transmission- Average:150 Peak:162

Well I have a 10 ram 1500 quad 4x4 3.92 rear and a 6.5x13 aluminum trailer full of pallets at about 3000 lbs gross weight running up and down mtns for 125 miles straight. 11 mpg and temps for rad were 225 and temps for oil were 225 and temps for trans 179 degrees. My personal opinion was a lil to warm and wonder why. 12,000 miles on this truck and 80 degrees outside and by the time we got there it was 55 degrees and the temps never fell. I set the cruise for 64 mph and never a saw a change. I was wondering on changing my thermostat to the 180 would help i guess it wouldn't hurt.

I have the 3.92 and a Hemi on an '11 Big Horn. I tow 7,000 lbs of Bayliner behind me fairly often, which is pushing my truck nearly 2,000lbs short of its limit. That being said, it tows it without falter or question. My 0-60 time towing it is roughly 17 seconds...so not fast, but enough for most on-ramps. My temps are never that far off from yours, and my coolant temp never gets as high as yours. I end up in the 200-205 range before the beast of a fan kicks in LOL.

To the poster above me: You should get your cooling system checked, a stock truck should never hit 225 degrees unless you are towing up a 7% incline...for 10 miles. Even then, thats about 10-15 deg above what I would consider to be normal towing temps.

Yeah, I frequently tow up 6 & 7% inclines and I have not seen temps that high.

Thats my review of towing my camper. Its just shy of 7600lbs per scales. I do have the 17" rims and the 3.92 gears so its the best combo ram makes for towing

Coolant- Average:203-5 Peak:225
Oil- Average:222 Peak:235
Transmission- Average:155 Peak:167

Since oil cooler installed my temps are the same except oil
Oil- Average:212 Peak:225
