Default Big pause between 1st and 2nd gear.

Has anyone else noticed a loss of rpm between 1st and 2nd while accelerating? (Like I am manually shifting it) It's like I let off the pedal between gears and the engine has to spool up again once second gear hits. Okay, maybe not quite that dramatic, but it's a noticeable hit. Normally the rpm's should stay up there and take advantage of the spooling, but this seems to be designed to do this, as there are no weird noises, clunking, etc. All other gears seem to shift normal for an Auto tranny. Would Tow Mode do this? Because I put it in Tow Mode often in town to try and kill the MDS.

I also find the shift from 1st to 2nd very hard and slow also, especially if you are slowly accelerating, but even stepping on it, it's a slow gear change. It's not just tow mode, I notice it around town without it on. I found it's getting worse, or I notice it more.

I heard that it is common with this transmission and the hemi engine combo? I didn't have this with my last Ram which was a 4.7.

I noticed this while test driving mine, when I asked the sells man about it he said it was programmed to shift like that. The guy in the shop said with the hemi they want it to "soft shift" when your hammering it, he said it will prolong the life of the drive train.

Mine does it even when I use tow/haul, with the traction control on or off. It's a little aggravating to have all of that HP and not get full use of it but I will admit that under normal driving I hardly notice the tranny shift.

I too have begun to notice this. There's a big dip in rpm's from 1st to 2nd. I think I'm going to ask a tech about it next time I'm up there.

I'm not sure if any of you have installed a predator tuner , but if so , have you noticed a difference in the shift quality once the predator has been uploaded ? I did on my 300 SRT8 car . It lays down one hell of a second gear and even chirped third the other night . Just wondering .

The 6 spd. in the silverado I had did this but it was down right awful. Even with the predator. It let up on the gas between shifts like a manual but with someone else driving!! Compared to it my ram shifts great with no hesitation. I use manual 5th gear to disable mds.

normal its in the programming.....it has more to do with creating an easy shift then durability....they got that crap from mercedes.....at the shift point the tcm aspect of the ecm sends a torque reduction request.....lol dodge thinks you like this.....

Sprinter, thanks for the info, is there any cure for this? Programer? Settings? It's very annoying and I definately do NOT like. Sounds like alot of folks do not like it.

There is a definite drop in torque on the 1-2 shift...maybe with almost 400 horse on tap and 20" wheels they don't want you to break anything. But then again, everything should be built to handle the power.
Do any of the re-programmers change the shift?
