Default Split up top and bottom winter front

Hi,

Has anyone ran a winter with just the top portion of the winter front. This is my first Dodge so I'm unsure if both pieces are required. I'd like to remove the red thread and split it into two, top and bottom..

And yes I'm on the Canadian prairies and it stops getting cold sometime into next year.

Please advise.

I removed the lower portion of mine simply because I didn't want it rubbing on my painted bumper all winter and it doesn't really get cold enough out here in BC to warrant having it. But with the cold temperatures you guys see out in the prairies I'd probably recommend keeping it on.

Thanks Brandonjansen.
Any chance we could swap weather for this winter?

I've never ran a winter front on any of my newer vehicles! Never had an issue either.

Haha I don't think that's going to be an option and I wouldn't go for it anyway.

Winter fronts are for 2500/3500 Cummins or other diesel trucks for the matter. You won't see them on gas vehicles as they aren't needed. Diesel relies on engine temperature for proper combustion. With how big the cooling systems are on these trucks running them through the winter with no cover can make it so the engine never gets to full operating temperature. Not something you want on a diesel.

Here's a picture of my truck with the winter front on last year. As stated above, I removed the bottom portion of it that goes over the opening in the bumper.

Thanks Brandonjansen for the pic. I'm not at the point of loading pics just yet. Would be nice to learn though.
