Default Shift kit?

So I think I'm getting close to ordering my TC. I was on Edge's website and noticed they also sell a shift kit with the TC. For $75 it seems like a good complimenting mod to the TC. I read somewhere on here though, that the shift kit doesn't do anything. Basically it works for a few hundred miles and then the truck learns what is there and resets back to factory. Is this true? Is it worth ordering the shift kit with the TC or just getting the TC on its own?

If your looking at the Transgo shift kit for the 45 or 545re then it works great. What some are talking about not working after a while is the sonnax line pressure booster, which is just a resister that 'tricks' the computer into thinking the line pressure is lower than it really is, but I have been running one for months now and it works great. But the transgo kit is great even with just a partial install, you would have to drop the tranny for a full install.

The problem with a shift kit is it doesn't solve the problem with our transmissions. It's kind of a bandaid to the problem of long and soft shifts. If you're interested, have a look at doing a valve body swap, especially on a 3rd gen. The Sharadon Stage III VBs are a great mod, I had one in my '07 and it was a night and day difference over my TransGo kit. Moe's has a good line on them and I would recommend the VB if you want better shifting without going to a fully built transmission.

I just took a look at the Stage III VB's. Would I want the one with the core or without the core? I really don't know much about VB's...

Without the core; it's not that much more, less hassle, and if you ever sell the truck you can just swap the OEM on back in and sell the upgraded one.

Thanks Kurtis.

My last question on this would be what is the difference between the stage III and the stage II VB's? Is one better than the other?

Stage III is just a firmer shift, better for the moderate hp people compared to the Stage II. When I was talking to the guys at Sharadon they basically told me they always recommend the stage III regardless of power level, but the stage II is an option if you don't want the super firm shifts.

Awesome. Thanks Kurtis!

Would it be a good idea to get a trans tune to go with a TC and a VB? Or would retuning the truck be a good idea too?

(I lied about the last question being my last question )
