Default Anti Theft questions

I was just wondering if I am alone in thinking it is DUMB that you must have the door OPEN in order to set the alarm. Also is there supposed to be an indicator ie. a light or something that tells both me and the shit head who wants to break in that the alarm is on and will go off. The manual is very sparce on this and thus is useless.

It is dumb that the door has to be open. Is this a factory RAM alarm?

My buddy who has a 2013 Ram told me that that is the only way to set the 2013 Ram alarm, it is written right in the Owners Manual

I also think that it is just plain stupid
say that you are unloading supplies, like groceries, going from the Ram to the house for a few trips, you close the door each time using your hip, because your hands are full.
Now you are finished, the last bag is in the house, your tired & still have to put the stuff away & start cooking.
Now you have go back outside, making a special trip to open the door, set the alarm & close the door ...........................

Is this something that might have changed for 2014? My 2014 owners manual says:

The Vehicle Security Alarm will set when you use the
power door locks, or use the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
transmitter to lock the doors. After all the doors are
locked and closed, the Vehicle Security Light in the
instrument panel cluster will flash rapidly for about 16
seconds to indicate that the alarm is being set. After the
alarm is set, the Vehicle Security Light will flash at a
slower rate to indicate that the system is armed.

Mine arms when I use the remote to lock it. If your door has to be open it sounds like you need to take it in to the dealer.

My 2013 manual says the same thing on page 21.

yes I am confused. I am assumed that when I use th key fob to lock my doors the alarm is automatically setting. is locking the doors and setting the alarm two separate things?

just a side note:
no one can tell if the alarm is on in my Ram, the 2 little lights are hidden
so i had my electronics guy install a Blue LED on my center dash board, in the 115 vac panel
it lights up the whole cab, when it flashes

I just got a 2013 Ram 1500 SLT crew cab with the big horn package and in my owners manual, it says the door has to be open and you use the remote lock or push the power lock button on the door, then shut the door and the alarm is armed. I did not know how to arm the alarm, so I looked it up. manually pushing down the lock does not arm the alarm on my truck. Some alarms are real sensitive to, not so much on this truck. You can rock it, grab the door handles, pound on the windows, etc and no alarm. unlock it with the key and open the door, the alarm sounds. Kind of weird, but doesn't bother me as I don't use the alarm around here anyhow.

Mine too. However, my light does not stay on and flash. Anyone else?
