When I got my Ram, I noticed the light didn't come on when I followed the manual's instructions. Tested it & found out the alarm wasn't even arming when locked with the key fob. The dealer had to do something to turn the alarm on - something about the alarm being off when transported from factory to dealership & turning the alarm on was part of the "new vehicle prep." Now, I don't know whether this was truly the case or not, but my alarm didn't work before & now works as stated in the manual. The small red flashing light is located in the circular speedometer, essentially behind the indicator arm when the arm is pointing at "0" speed.

I have seen it blink once or twice when I lock the doors. It never stays on however. Are you saying yours stays on and blinks continuously?

I haven't noticed a light either, but I haven't tried very hard. I will say that one time I managed to open the door and have the thing go off on me, so I have to believe it is there! I have only used the key fob to lock the doors after closing them.

Ok. Now I know why I have never seen it blink even at night. The alarm LED is in between the fuel gauge and the speedometer needle. The only way to see it is to be sitting in the drivers seat looking at the gauge cluster. I made a video for all:

although my 2009 gauges look different then the 2013 model
my light is almost exactly where yours is in that video

i was told by the Independent alarm guy that works for the Dodge Dealer here
that the light in the instrument cluster is not for anything to do with BREAKING IN
It is actually connected to the ignition, it won't allow the Ram to start without someone having the FOBs chip either in the key slot or held really close to the key slot as something is used to turn the slot to the Start position.
A Starter Immobilizer, if that is a correct term

I wanted a alarm to deter people from breaking in
the dealership service department sent me to the Independent Alarm guy across the street, he installed another MOPAR alarm with a Sensitivity Switch, ( the sensitivity can be adjusted by turning a screw )
This is what it looks like installed, it is the Green thing next to the hood release, it also blinks

Almost all good car alarms automatically come with an immobilizer. The stock Ram is one of those. It will sound an audible alarm as well as honk the horn and flash the lights if the doors are opened without the FOB. It basically does what an aftermarket alarm does. Really good alarms have things like shock sensors, microphones and motion sensors that can be aimed in to the truck bed. If anyone reaches in to the bed to steal anything it sets off the alarm. I know a couple of install places that will take this one step further. A buddy of mine had his Jeep Wrangler set up to give a physical shock to anyone touching any metal part of the vehicle when the alarm was tripped.

I couldn't see the light from outside the truck so I had someone sit in the drivers seat. It didn't matter how I locked the truck, fob or push button, doors open or shut, the alarm system armed.

When else would you want the alarm to activate if only by the door being opened.....?
