no, in my experience, it won't turn white and you can't "patch" opti coat up.

if a section gets scratched and needs re-applied, you will have to abrade all the coating off that panel and re-apply to that panel.

Maybe a dumb question but can I abrade the rims without scratching the chrome when it comes time to reapply ?

never a dumb question!

Opti coat isn't going to wear off or anything, and will only be removed by polishing/compounding.

are you expecting something to wear off the opti coat on the wheels? it is a great product that is chemical and brake dust resistant. you should only ever really need soap and water to clean the rims after the opti coat application.

prep is key, but i would highly recommend optimum finish polish to clean the clad rims before application of opti coat, and just a nice hand application is all that will likely be required, unless they are in rough shape!

I purchased the truck new with 14 miles on it, the original wheels had pits and defects on them but I was told I would only get 1 set of replacement wheels and that they would replace them at any time during the warranty period so I waited a year and decided that I could not live with them looking like they did. They replaced them and the new wheels are almost perfect so I want to keep them that way.I did use a sealer on the old wheels but the pits got worse over winter even though they had been sealed and were cleaned regularly during the 4600 miles I put on them.Can opticoat be purchased in a smaller quantity since I only want to do my wheels and if not what is the shelf life of the product as I will use what is left on my wifes car in the spring.

Ben;

what was the sealant you previously used on your wheels?

Once opened, the Opti coat will last you till spring. just make sure to turn the syringe upside down (tip up) and purge the air from the syringe and you will be good to go. it will last if stored at room temperature without any air in the tube.

there is enough in the tube to do a car and truck in my experience, so hit your truck with the coating too!

Wizards.The wheels were very thinly plated and the copper? was showing in some spots so they were junk from the start. For now I am using Wolfgang 3.0 paint sealant topped with Pinnacle Souveran on the paint.For quick detail I use Pinnacle spritz.I did the full prep before application of these products. The black paint now has depth and a shine that I am very pleased with. thank you for your advice on opticoat, I will be ordering some in the next couple of days.
