breakdown of my bill...
Plugs and PCV valve $252
throttle body and fuel cleaning $99
Cooling system flush $125
Transmission flush $180
Rear Diff flush $145
Transfer case flush $75
State inspection and Emissions $70
oil change (half price) $22
pair of front tie rod ends $100 (deductible, covered under extended warranty)

plus i still need to buy a battery, all at 30k miles
Agree with OEM parts being junk, recently had a faulty front brake caliper lock up and destroy my rotor. They told me the faulty part was covered under warranty but the rotors and pads are wear and tear items and are not covered, then convinced me its best to replace them all in pairs. Didnt understand why the rotors and pads wouldnt be covered if the faulty caliper was the cause of their failure, not normal wear and tear.

I am so sick of dealerships taking advantage of their customers, this seems to be common practice among every single authorized dealer in at least my area

Get the tie rods done under warranty, then find a good local mechanic and follow your service schedule and keep your receipts.

Agree 100%, I am my own mechanic so I just take pics of before and after, and attach it all together in a file with all the receipts.

Yes, your dealer service department is charging you for stuff you don't need done yet. But hey, live and learn is the best kind of education. And like Asur said, I, too, am my own mechanic. Just be proactive in maintaining records and receipts if you decide to join the revolution against crooked dealer service departments.

I just want to confirm, this is 30K from purchase, or does your '08 only 30K miles on it total? I'll assume you're talking 30K total (which is extremely low for your year, congrats).

At 30K your fluids don't need to be changed, they must be inspected, that is ALL the service manual says, this dealership is trying to pull a full flush and fill instead of an inspection.
Plugs and PCV should be changed around 30K
Clean the throttle body and fuel system yourself using a $10 can on seafoam.

Have a good read through your owner's manual, it has what is required at a given mileage, and that's from the factory to keep your warranty, not the 'dealership recommended' BS they try and hand you. Of course the dealership recommends an oil change every 3K, it gets you back in their door.

Yes my odo actually reads 29,595 miles. I bought the truck new in 9/08 with only 7 miles on it. I am glad its not a daily driver as it only gets 12.5 mpg.

Seeing that they wouldnt release my truck back to me without full payment, its all done with now. Their main threat is if these scheduled services and maintenances (including 3k oil changes) arent done by an authorized dealer with 500+/- mile of their due dates it'll void the extended warranty 10 yr/ 100k miles i paid extra to have.

So in retrospect this extra warranty has only made me a slave to the Dodge Dealers tyranny

I would have them change just the tie rod ends under warranty for the $100 deductible. They shot themselves in the foot with that. Now they can't sat it doesn't need to be done and you get $400+ of work for $100. I know the spark plugs can be a bitch on these Hemis (There are 16 of them). I think somewhere on the board I read the estimated shop time was 2 hours plus.

Now, all of this assumes they actually looked at your truck and not a "going by the book" as stated above. We don't have state inspections here so not sure what the margin is.

I've gotta chime in on this and throw a flag because it doesn't pass the stink test. It only has 30K on it, but it is 5 years old, so the dealership should have went by the 60K/5 year schedule A maintenance schedule. At the 60K/5 year mark, all you need to do is change the oil, plugs, and coolant. Everything else is a check. Tie rods shouldn't even be a issue at 15K. Your dealership did you wrong.

"Stink Test" is about right, in fact this whole experience at this particular dealership stinks. Although there are goos honest dealerships, it is dealerships like the one the one in question that lead people to mistrust them.

Which is the biggest scam since bottled tap water and balance bands, which Bernie Madoff himself would be proud.

But to be fair, not all dealerships recommend the [absurd] 3K oil change intervals.
