Default 20x10 or 20x9 Rims

Hi All

Just wanted to know if it would be better to use a 20x10 or 20x9 rim for some 35"x12.5x20" Nitto terra grappler tires. I would like to go with -12 offset if possible. I have a 2010 Ram 1500 with a rancho quick lift loaded leveling kit. I would really like to run those tires but they are very wide and I don't want them to rub.

If you don't want to rub go with a 20x9 0 offset. Anything other than that puts you at a greater chance of rubbing. A 20x10 -12 offset is pretty much guaranteed to rub. It will also be sticking out past your fender further so you have that to think about as well.

Really the decision comes down to how you want the wheel to look. The 20x10 will have a deeper lip than the 20x9. If you want that look then go for the 20x10. If you don't care about that as much and just want to avoid rubbing go with a 20x9.

So a 20x9 rim with 0 offset and the wider trail grapplers won't rub?

Nope, you'll clear that no problem. Going to a -12 offset will actually give you a greater chance of rubbing than the 0 offset. In fact it would bet that you will rub for sure with the -12 offset.

Thanks for your quick response. I really would like to put those tires on the factory rim but I don't want to run a 2" adapter. I will just order some 20x9's with 0 offset.

I ran a 20x9 -12 offset on 35/12.5/20

I also have a 2.5/1.5 Level and I am rubbing slightly

Not a big deal. Only rubbing in full lock.

But looks amazing.

Will post some photos tomorrow. Got to dark to take any tonight.

I was just looking at the Nitto web site and their specs show that 35x12.5x20 actually measures 13.39" . 0 offset would still clear and have no issues?

Yup, that will clear no problem.

I'll explain the whole rubbing thing a little better here for you and any other members that see this thread wondering about this. A 0 offset wheel has the mounting surface in the exact middle of the rim (between the two lips). That means when you turn it is making the smallest arc possible while still staying away from the suspension parts on the inside. If you go to a -12 offset you're pushing the whole wheel/tire out a half inch. So now with you turn your arc is that much bigger. Because of this your tire will end up rubbing on the back of the inner fender; it's not a clearance issue on the inside suspension parts. Now if you go to a 20x10 -12 offset you're pushed out a inch further than the 20x9 0 offset making that problem even worse.

If you want to run 20x9 -12 offset wheels you can make that happen with minor rubbing near full lock as Rockyd831 said. And there are ways to fix that. Essentially all you have to do is pull the inner fender back slightly and remove the plastic trim pieces on the back of the fender. If you want to see some pictures of that take a look at my wheel/tire thread linked in my signature below. I dealt with that exact issue and posted up the solution to how I got rid of the rubbing.
