Default Oem antenna

So I am looking for a little advise. I brought my 4 month old truck (just a baby) into the dealership yesterday to get two recalls taken care of. While I was doing that I spoke to the service manager about a paint defect on my truck. He asked if they could wash the truck so they could see the defect better and possibly photograph it. Without thinking I said yes, and wouldn't you know it the antenna got bent to hell. I never use touch car washes because my 03 ended up with the same damage.

My question is has anyone replaced their stock antenna with a shorter one? Are there draw backs when it comes to reception.

My second question is with all of this new fancy technology and styling why hasn't ram addressed this issue.

Just a rant as I'm still hoping the dealership will fix the damage.

there is a current post thread about the shorter antennas, i just saw it today
you have several options
you may lose a bit of AM/FM reception with some of them

Your timing of this post couldn't be better!

So I myself was at the dealer about a month ago and they ran my truck through there automatic wash, (without my knowledge). I get home and notice my antenna was bent, called them right away and they ordered me a new base and all. In the meantime, I had a small 6'' black antenna I put on which I actually liked.

Went out of town last weekend (with my little black antenna on). My ride was 3 hours both ways. THE ENTIRE 3 HOURS THERE AND BACK MY TRUCK WHISTLED!!! Sounded as if there was an air leak in the windshield somewhere! DROVE ME AND MY OCCUPANTS NUTS!!! Called dealer and told them what it was doing, they said bring it in.

So this week was able to head to dealer. On my way there and all of the sudden it hits me: The factory antenna is designed to be silent at highway speeds! Pulled over, put on factory antenna, got up to about 80 mph, it was silent. Pulled over again, put on little black antenna, got back up to 80 mph, whistling like crazy!

Problem solved. Threw little black antenna in the back seat, had dealer replace antenna parts they ordered, all is good........

Did the wash cause any body damage to your truck? Mine now has three small ripples above the plastic antenna mount. I tried taking a photo but it's very hard to see.

No body damage. my truck is Mineral Grey Metallic which hides small scratches and imperfections well though. If you actually go on a lot and look at the Rams you will notice they do appear slightly bent from the factory, but nothing like what mine looked like after the car wash.

Good to know. When I get back to the dealer to have them repair it I will check out the new ones on the lot. I appreciate all the information and will be ordering a stubby soon. I just bought a topper and a bedbug, the CFO (cough the wife cough) has me on a short leash.
