True story for you.
Poutine started out at McDonalds in Montreal by a guy by the name of Gill. He was a good friend of mine and thought that it would take off.
He worked at the McDonalds across the road from The Forum (the old home of the Habs), but they made it differently back then (more than 20 years ago now.
Gill used to make this at home, and his girlfriend would make it for us when my then girlfriend and I would go and visit, but instead of using gravy he used to put a pasta meat sauce and cheese on top of his fries.
I hate to admit it, but it was awesome.....of course I was in my early 20's so any free food was awesome! LOL....
This is how it was proposed to McDonalds, but the cost to make this and keep this with the meat pasta sauce was too expensive so they dumbed it down to gravy.
As for me, my favourite fast food would be Sushi to go, but I have a real hard time passing up on Whopper Wednesday! LOL.......
As for Five Guys.......we even have them here in Toronto now.
