Default Oil Filter Change With Hemi Engine

How do you change the hemi oil filter without making a mess? The new power steering units are right below the filter, and I'm curious how to best avoid a mess.

I know someone out there has some great ideas.

I don't have a 13 but there is also a bunch of steering stuff under the filter on the other years. What I used to do on my 09 was take a piece of cardboard and fold it in half. Then place the cardboard under the filter like a trough directed to the drain pan.

I hope it's a better set up for the 2013s. Can someone with a 2013 HEMI take a look for us and let us know? It'd be really appreciated.

Timely post, although I have a 2012, I am doing my first oil/filter change tomorrow. Thanks Topgun for the suggestion.

I know someone changed their oil and filter this weekend...how did you keep the oil off the power steering unit?

If I'm not mistaken, I think you can put a plastic bag over the filter and then twist it off so that oil doesnt drip all over the place.

Yup, i use a heavy duty gallon ziplock bag. once it is drained from the filter mount i just zip it up and drop it out...

Just changed my oil and filter for the first time this evening. Did not have anything handy to make a trough or a empty gallon milk container, although I really could not see any space for a cut down 1-gallon container. I forgot about the plastic bag trick so I just went ahead and removed it. Note to self, yes oil drips on to various components, but not nearly as bad as I thought, next time try the plastic bag trick. Did not take very long to clean up the miss directed oil.
