Default Trailer Hitch Rating

Is the trailer hitch installed at the dealer on a 2013 RAM1500 rated for use with a weight distributing hitch?

Yes, several members here use WDHs with the class IV hitch that came on their trucks.

the rule of thumb should be

if the piece of metal that is the hitch receiver is Bolted to the rear piece of the frame, it is
a Class 3
if the everything is welded together at the back end & the bolts are that are holding onto the frame are at both sides of the frame, it is a Class 4

Class 4

Class 3

My 2013 did not come with a hitch. I bought the Mopar hitch from the dealer. The cross beam was already attached to the truck. I just needed the hitch part. It's a bolt on. I noticed the rams that come stock with hitches are welded. The rating on mine was 5,000 lbs with no weight distribution hitch, 10,000 with distribution hitch.

Yes and in my case I have a WD anti-sway hitch combo and works great. My Ram also "tows like a machine".
