Default Adding a Mopar Integrated Trailer Brake Controller

Has anyone added the Mopar Intergrated Trailer Brake Controller to their after the purchase of the truck. I recently bought a travel trailer and was planning to add the Mopar brake controller, but my dealership want 238.00 for the controller and around 250-360 to install it or if i install it they want 150 to flash the computer. This seems way to high to me. Is it that difficult to install yourself?

I would just buy an aftermarket for less than $200 including harness and install it yourself. My Tekonsha Prodigy P2 and 2013 wire harness cost me $166 total.

Yeah I agree, I am looking at a Prodigy P3 with harness for the same price. I really like the factory look but that is way to much money.

Be very careful i have heard alot of 2013 owners having problems adding aftermarket controllers only to find out in the end that the 2013's will not run them.

There should be no problem, I purchased the wiring kit for the 2013. I would buy the mopar kit in a heartbeat but 500 or more is crazy.

Don't spend money on it. My 2013 express has the intergrated controller,it is useless, because there is no sensitivity adj. when i apply brakes there is a delay before the trailer brakes apply and then it jerks both the trailer and truck.I'm very disgusted with this truck. The cheap metal latch on the console rattles like a dime in a tin cup.

I disagree about the integrated controller, which mine came with from the factory. It's easy to get properly adjusted, the display is in the EVIC. I have no delay before the brakes apply & have learned that by changing the setting by a 1/2 increment when my trailer is empty or near empty, it performs flawlessly according to the weight. A real advantage of the integrated is the display of all info in the EVIC.

My suggestion is to be careful about what you buy & ensure you do your research. I've read on here both views - folks with real problems with adding an aftermarket & others whose install with an aftermarket went flawless.

Don't play games when it comes to a break controller it's not worth losing your life just because you were cheap. the factory one is great I have had no issues with it. and there is a chance it might just plug in and work. My mechanic installed one in his and he did not have to flash the computer. it doesn't hurt to try. I would defiantly recommend getting the Mopar one that goes with your truck.
Besides it looks better blends into the dash.

The proper Mopar looks better & does display on the EVIC
it will also increase the value of your Ram, if you ever decide to sell it

Go to the eTrailer website & look up the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 for the 2013 Ram
all the facts are on that website
if you want the 3rd brake light to work with it, there is a add on harness, required in California
