I purchased the factory unit from a seller on eBay. It installed easily, and my truck recognized it right away with no trip to the dealer.

I modified the mounting process of the bracket slightly, however. The factory option calls for installing screws from the center of the truck out. I could not see an easy (or possible) way to do this without taking apart most of the dash. I drilled holes in the bracket near the existing mounting holes, and used 2 #6 tek screws to mount it under the dash. Piece of cake...

What about doing this on an 11? The slot is to the left of the steering wheel on the bottom of the dash. Anyone messed with that?

The cheap metal latch on the console rattles like a dime in a tin cup.
The sensitivity adjust is the + and - button. It integrates with the digital dash read out. Just go into the menu and you should be able to see it. I complained to the dealer and got mine installed for 290.00 after tax and labor.

It's a different control than the 13. They changed it for 2013. I heard it's an easy install for the 2011.

the 2011 is pretty easy too, basically the same as the 2010 model
there may be a wire color change

this is how one guy worked with the 2012 brake controller & the software to make it show up on the EVIC

I did mine last weekend. Installed in 30 minutes. It actually worked without flashing. You just cannot see the display of the output (I have the 7" evic). I debated having it flashed. The dealer did it for free. I could see the gain. Setting on the evic. Flashing gives you the output in a gauge when a trailer is connected, tracks trailer miles and gives you 4 custom options for different gains. At least on the 1500 express.

I like it, I tow one trailer with electric brakes. I have not connected it yet.

Install it yourself. It's easy. Watch your fingers. The steel under the dash is razor sharp. I ended up with two band aids. A 7 mm box end wrench is needed for sure.

A great idea as those screws are a bear. Another idea, drille the bracket through and install u shaped speed nuts on the factory steel under the dash. Then a ratchet will screw the screws in the easy way through the bracket and firmly attach to the steel.

I'm just wondering, I want to install factory built in unit in my truck. When removing the blank plate in the dash, where the unit is mounted, is the plug there to just plug the unit in? I am dreading the thought of having to take my center console apart, to run the wires to the back of the controller unit in the dash.

Thanks

Yes the plug is there. It plugs into the back of the blank. Just plug in the new switch and install the module and two plugs into module.
