Default 3.9 to 5.2 swap, opinions

as we all know the 3.9 is a little on the weak side and I want a bit more goo. ive seen like a bajillion post about this topic but I was wondering if anyone has bout one of those remanufactured engines off ebay and if theyre any good. or should I rebuild a junk yard one. and if anyone has done it how much did it cost front start to finish. thanks

That's a wide-open question. You could scrape and scrounge, and if the engine is clean and needing no machining of hardware (like re-surfacing the crank), but needing head work/replacement, probably around $2000.00, but could be considerably more, it all depends on what you get and what you do. It wouldn't hurt to make friends with the local machine shop Vo-tech instructor ....get the work for free. However, time is your most costly commodity. You may see that buying one ready to prep and install is more cost-effective in time expended despite the added expense in dollars. I haven't bought any reman engines, but it's becoming a more appealing option.

My big thing on doing a swap like this is how do you whant it to run? If you whant the factory set up like gen 1 sed get a used one and rebuild it. Then you can get wires for the two extra injectors and computer. Be mindful of what kind of truck you get motor from weather its auto or manual. Now if factory is not what you want then its a good idea for a reman just for warrenty and go with after market fuel injection or carb. Then from there your down to trans. If you are a manual. Fuel injection in ether case stands alone. Auto you will have to figure out how to get a stnd alone control for it or congert it to manual shift.
