Lightbulb v6- v8 swap help

im new here and i just got a 1994 dodge ram 1500 long bed 2wd 5 speed truck with a seized 3.9l engine. since i already have the truck apart to paint the frame i was just wondering what i would need to swap engine with a v-8. like what v-8 do i use with my five speed manual trans (bolt up and not tear it apart. dose the same exhaust work or do i need to swap that out to. anything about this subject would be greatly appreciated. this is my first newer truck i have done an engine swap in so im not completely clueless about it. thanks in advance for the help

Default Engine swap

I can't help you but sure am interested in the answers others might have. I have a 96 single cab, short bed and want to make the change to a larger engine. The six has no power and gets lousy gas mileage.

The transmission will bolt to either V8, but is of low torque capacity, so it'll live a little longer behind the 5.2 than the 5.9. Same engine mounts. Same starter. Same water pump. Same timing gear set. Same exhaust pipes, but naturally, not the same exhaust manifolds. You will need a V8 flywheel. V8 computer. If you're good with basic wiring, the V6 engine harness will work, just wire in two additional injector wires, but just getting a V8 harness is easier. If you need a distributor, the V6 unit will work, just replace the V6 cap with a V8 cap. The V8 fuel rails will connect to the exhisting fuel lines. Do yourself a favor and do a plenum gasket repair/upgrade on the donor engine, timing chain and water pump. You'll be leagues ahead.

A slight correction is in order. You do, in fact need the correct matching flywheel for the engine. While the 3.9 and 5.2 are both zero balance engines, the flywheels are notched for the crankshaft position sensor. It is the automatics that have the removable exciter ring. The 5.9 is balanced with external weight so it shouldn't be used with the 5.2.

Do you need to change the computer? If I am using an automatic what differences are there?

The V6 computer will be lacking two injector control wires in the harness. I don't know if the connectors for cylinder 7 and 8 are present on the V6 computer or if they're just blank spaces. If the terminals are there and just not in use you should be able to add two wires and get it re-programmed for V8 function, but it may be easier and cheaper to snag a V8 computer and just add the wires to your V8 harness. If you can find a V8 donor truck, you can snag the harness and fuel rails, exhaust manifolds. With the automatic, you will need the V8 flexplate.

I'm in the home stretch of my swap but i was curious if anybody knew the pin locations on the early/mid 90's computers for injector 7 and 8?
