Default Paint still an issue on some 2014's

I was at my Ram dealership today and while there checked out a 2014 white Limited that was on the showroom floor. It had numerous paint nibs including a "boulder" right in the middle of the hood. My 2012 Ram had 79 nibs that I removed. I had hoped that Chrysler had resolved this problem. Guess not. Might want to check your new truck very carefully before signing on the dotted line. Just sayin'.

A paint nib is a dust or dirt particle under the paint. Nibs are removed by careful wet sanding and polishing. It's not something that would be recommended to do on factory paint.....but I did it anyhow.

NASA invented a technique called wet sanding that eliminates numbs and dust in paint finishes. No big deal. I fail to see why people are crying about this so loudly. I also fail to see why a dealer doesn't address this issue immediately and before putting the heap out on the showroom floor.

Just for your edification, Ferrari has a special step in the production of all their cars where a specialist goes over the newly painted cars looking for the inevitable nubs or small paint flaws. They then wet sand the problems out of the paint and send the cars on their way.

If I paid $50k for a truck, I sure hope it doesnt need a bodyshop to fix new paint.
back in the early 80's Chevys had issues, they put trucks in primer, sat them outside before going into paint. Paint would come off in sheets!

Dealer turn and burn...they wont spend that time fixing paint.

If you're wet sanding, aren't you going to strip off the clear coat? What do you do about that, once you get the Nib removed?

Thats why I will be taking a while to do a good inspection before I give them the cheque.
If and when my truck ever gets built, 6 weeks in BX status.

Yep, you will remove some clear...hopefully not too much. No one really wanted to "mess" with my truck so I said to heck with it and did it myself...very carefully. My truck gets a lot of miles but also spends a bunch of time in the garage...every night and most of the day. No long days in parking lots. I keep it well waxed. If/when the paint "goes South". I'll trade...probably not for another Ram even though I have had three of them. Best looking trucks on the road and I love the Hemi.

I'll not be buying a Ford either (unless it is a Raptor ), but here is one of Ford's better ideas on dealing with paint nibs/blems from the factory. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2013/08...nt-better.html

I saw them do the same thing on the Ram assembly line. It was on a Youtube video and they had a cordless drill with a paint buffing head on it polishing the paint. At least that' s what I'd guess she was doing. I looked over my 2014 Laramie pretty good before taking delivery yesterday and didn't see any paint issues. I did find an extra bolt laying loose in the front passenger door map pocket. Hopefully it was from shipping and not a bolt they forgot to install at the factory?
