if you think it's tranny related, go to a real tranny shop and have them do diagnostics on it...they have a different type of reader then a normal mechanic will have. it will check line pressure and can run simulations on it. Almost sounds like a tq converter not unlocking when it should...

my '08 has 2x now shut down on me. both times it was low idle...I thought perhaps I simply had not given enough gas. Now I'm wondering about the transmission...or the idle clutch?

also: the rear end went out...totally. While it is an '08, it has just under 72k miles. I love my truck...it's my 3rd (and is meant to be the 10 year truck)...I am thankful for the 100k warranty. I bought it with just under 36k miles...have had it 2 years.

i have heard of several different types of rams in the 04 to 09 having the engine shut off while driving issue. a couple of my friends trucks did that too. one is an 08 ram 1500 with the 4.7 the other is a 06 2500 with the hemi. both were doing the same thing. driving along normally and the truck would randomly shut down the engine sometimes it was like turning off the key other times a surge or two than nothing at all. pull over turn the key off and restart like nothing happened. it took me a few days of diagnosing but i found the problem. at least the problem causing the issue on their trucks. water was getting behind the fuse block under the hood and caused corrosion on some wires. the problem would show up when the voltage regulator would require more power to the electrical system and cause an arc and i managed to make it happen while i was diagnosing the problem and had my laptop hooked to the truck and seen it. after waterproofing the fuse block and cleaning up the corrosion and replacing some wiring the problem hasn't shown up again for over a year now.

I would agree with this...i had random shutdowns and i replaced the fusebox which fixed it..

See if he can check if the clutch is pressurized enough. Your experiencing literally the same thing I did, and that's why I needed a new tranny, because at that point the labour in taking the trans apart and replacing bad parts would cost more then a new trans. But see if he can check somehow if the clutch is pressurized enough. It might not be even that. I had my Cam sensor replaced too and it didn't do a thing, in fact the morning after my cam sensor was replaced is when my rpm's would spike. My TB was as clean as a whistle too, I cleaned it and so did the mechanic I took it too as well.
