Default OEM catalytic convert vs Magnaflow

2003 Ram 4.7l having a problem with engine quitting. Turns off and electronics remain on. Starts up almost immediately. Read other threads on stalling.

As my son uses it , I took it to the dealer and they are saying needs a new cat. $3500???. Found the OEM part on Moparpartsdept.com for $1650 + 200 for core #521033626A. Can get the Magnaflow pipe with CA legal cat for about $700, PN 458068

Anyone with experience for either replacement? Other advice on the engine quitting?

thanks

Go with the Magnaflow. I did mine myself. really simple.... stock ones were so plugged up the engine wouldnt run.

Before I went spending money I'd punch the old one out and make sure that's the problem first.

hotrod3367 do you know what caused the cats to go bad? Just spoke with Magnaflow and they discussed a failed head gasket. Would want to address this also if that is the case. thanks
