Default Race Gas

I see they have sunoco race gas at the pump in Lake Havasu City for the big boats. Anyone tried mixing it in their hemi? i know 260gt plus is unleaded and says it won't harm fi components.

I don't think you'll gain anything even with custom tuning. To get more power with higher octane, you'd need a higher compression motor. Friend of mine has a 13.5/1 compression 426 stroker in his Dodge Charger, he has the opposite problem, he can tune it for 93 octane to run ok, but he leaves a lot of power on the table. Some guys who have E85 available have good luck running high compression motors. For example for you, though, on the dyno, custom tuning my hemi from 87 octane to 93 octane is only worth about 10 hp max. If you can run (no ethanol) gas, you will pick up 1-2 more mpg.

thanks. i just wondered if mixing it in would feel more responsive,as 87 to 91 does. we had mixed some 100 in with snowmobile gas and the throttle was crisper. i realize for more hp you would have to tune for that fuel and the always run it.

Yup, x2 on what hydrex said. Putting high octane fuel in a motor that doesn't require it will not add any power.

on my dirtbike i race we get better results with a gas thats 104 octane than we do with a 110 or 113 octane...the 104 octane has a higher oxygen content then the 110 or 113 also, the only thing youll also notice is if you ever tear your motor apart the pistons are much cleaner, with race gas it leaves a nice clean white film on the piston compared to pump gas that leaves a black silt kinda film on the piston...but the race gas we use also contains lead which helps lubricate the valves

I tanked up on it in my SRT10 but I have no cats, noticed a difference, smelt awesome too.....A friend used it mixed with 93 but ended up damaging an 02 and cat, if you have cats I wouldn't bother.
