Default Which cold air intake gives best performance gains ?

Hi there, I now have owned my new ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 , 5.7 hemi express truck for 3 months now , and I am looking to install a cold air intake system . I know there are several brands in the market but what I want most of all is one that will give me the most horse power gains ! There is one manufacturer out there called AFE cold air intake system and they claim up to 50 hp gain with there system ! Is that possible for a cold air intake system . A little input from some ram owners who may have better info on this would be helpful ! Thank you

First word of advice, avoid looking at any of the manufacturer's advertised HP numbers, they are all a complete load of... Basically one car somewhere with one specific intake from them got that magical number, and they apparently have a dyno sheet to prove it. So of course, their intake can give you up to 50hp gains... individual results may vary.

Basically you just need to look at 2 factors: looks, and flow vs filtration. S&B makes one of the better filters when comparing flow/filtration, Green Filters is up there too, the oiled K&Ns flow better but don't filter as well. I like AFE's dry filters and they make a decent intake. Some people love the vararam, people like me hate it.

This is such a subjective topic that you really can't get a straight answer as to which is the 'best'

50HP gains is not possible with just a CAI, IMO.

I agree with you on that ! When I read 50 hp gain I was like really you can't get that with a performance programmer unless it is a Diesel engine . I know all the top named cold air manufacturers are good it is which one gives the best hp gains ?

I've read somewhere that changing the air intake system on these late model will not boost the performance anywhere near what the manufacturers are claiming. The stock performance is plenty for me. The fuel mileage is pretty good but not that good.

^^^^^^...Yep youtube is the myth buster on aftermarket intake...worthless unless you're looking for the sound...in some cases loose power. Save your money unless you plan on doing a 300 dollar tune in concert with the intake..my 2 cents

Several other modifications would be necessary before a cold air intake would contribute to more performance.

And a lot of CAI intakes are not as good as the factory setup for bringing in real cold air. I personally like the AFE stuff.
