Default It's tire time again

Just before the last presidential election, the tire industry was hit with a 35% import tax. I use to be able to buy 4 tires for around $1200.00 bucks. Now I go pricing and the same tires are in the $2000.00 range. So this time around I need to focus on what will last longer as opposed to what looks good & grips the ground better. I'm looking for a 40"x13.50"x20" Preferably a mud terrain style tread. The width can vary a little wider if need be. I'm running a full Rize 8" suspension system so I have the clearance. It pisses me off when they say they saved the tire industry when what they really did is screw us.

i'm running cooper discoverer stt's on my power wagon and i love them. good tread good traction and good wear. i'd look into those.

oh if you want to see high prices for tires try looking up a few prices in canada for tires. we pay alot more for tires up here.

IMO BFG makes a quality offroad tire that last if you keep them properly inflated and rotate regular but they are not cheap.

Toyo M55 really last a long time. Not to be confused with open country M/T

M55 are a whole different animal. Awesome longevity, fairly aggressive, but not good on snow/ice.

Hey man I have the 40" BFG mud tires and they are great. They dont make too much noise and they are very comfortable. They are a little pricey but I think they are worth it.

Are you sure you have the clearance? I see you have an 8" lift, but you are a 2500. I'm about 12" lifted but a 1500. The tires were close to rubbing when I was only at 10", so I had to turn my front shocks up a bit to get me the extra space. I mean my heavy ass bumper probably didnt help either since it weighed down the front end a bit. You may be alright but I would make sure before spending that much money on the tires.

Look at "treadwear" rating on tire. The higher the number the harder the compound the better the wear Example 440 treadwear better than 230. On the side of tire and size sticker on new tires. "soft" tires wear like a pencil eraser. Check it out.

Im running 35x12.50x20s federal couragia MTs on my 03 1500 and have so far been very happy. Im about 13,500 miles on them and so far with regular rotation they have wore excellent! I wore out a set of 33x12.50x20 cooper stt and had no complaints, other than the cost to buy another set. I spent $1350 on my federals (included balance and install) so over all a good deal.
