I have a 2011 and I bought it because my old truck couldn't handle my TT. I wanted to buy the Cummins but for the amount I move my TT I didn't see the need to spend the extra $$$ on something I really didn't need. My 1500 pulls it fine but it would be nice to have a little extra power to pull the hills around here. Now if I use the camper more often then I would not have hesitated on the diesel. I'm like you and I would love to have a manual transmission but those are just too hard to find now days. I pulled teeth to get on in my last truck. I just wish it was easier and available in any vehicle like it use to be.

I have to comment on the longevity thing. I don't know how long you keep your trucks but my 2009 Ram had 72k miles on it. Not a drop of trouble.

You have to understand a truck is a truck. They all will run great as long as you maintain them. I honestly don't think one or the other is better because of the power plant. Again they all have to be maintained.

That being said I know for a fact that if something ever did happen to the diesel it will cost more to get it corrected.

If you feel more comfortable towing your 32ft trailer with a Cummins, then by all means, roll the numbers. Not only will you rid that itch, but you will be able to check off that must have on your towing need list.

I completely agree arth but I have never seen a hemi with 350,000 I have seen the 5.9 with that much granted this is a 6.7 I don't see alot of complaints out of people...it could very well bite me in the a$$ if I were to get it and be a money hole past the warranty I don't know that's another thing that worries me

gantman if I were to move the trailer other than small trips around Cali it would be cross country for camp lejune so that's another factor do I get it for possible military moves... Another down side is if I get stationed in Japan I'll be hurting making payments and no vehicle ...

still a toss up int head every pro I find brings up a con every con brings up a pro its an on going battle in my head

Keep in mind, you're asking this question on a forum predominantly made up of people with half ton trucks. You're going to get biased answers just like if you were to post this same question on a diesel forum.

I'd do what makes you happy. It's your truck and money. Personally, I'd go with the Cummins G56 combo.

well ladies and gents I went for it. The dealer added another 2k to my trade to make me and the bank happy so I got 32 for my trade(started negotiations at 26 I laughed) and new truck started at 53000(sticker price) came out to 43795 after tax tag title. All in all I'm happy with the deal stoked I have a Cummins and manual trans(feels good to be in control haha)

I want to thank everyone for their answers and opinions and all comments went into deep consideration for me...Arth a special thanks to you for going the extra mile and showing me yes these hemis can last to 350k as well as your info on the ctd, although I didn't get that last pm till after its good to know and I'll let you know of any changes about what you sent me...

as of now I got 22.4 mpg on the way home but it was all freway at 65 mph and when I drove around the city it got to 19 but looks like 17-18 will be the real average..either way alot better than the 10-13 I was getting in my lifted 1500 haha.

I know its a bit late, but there is an article over on Allpar about a guy with an '04 Hemi with 500,000+ on it. Proper maintenance goes a long way:
