Default Recreational Towing with 8 Speed

Can someone with an 8 speed 4X4 try to put their transfer case into and out of neutral following the manual?

In the Owners manual page 603 Item 5 "Turn Engine Off. On 8 speed transmissions the shifter will automatically select park when engine is turned off".

My engine will NOT turn off unless I select park first. I sent customer assistance an email asking about that and received an answer that did not address the question.

I have towed it 700 miles & it's a great toad.

Mine is the same. You cant turn if off unless it is in Park.

That's weird. The 2 times I forgot to shift into park before turning the key off, the truck shifted and the park indicator blinked after the truck turned off. I started it up to be sure and it was indeed in park.

Received a call from Ram engineering. Said the owners manual was in error and that you have to put it in park manually. Also noted that the online manual is different than the large printed manual.

Evidently between 2012 and 2014 the procedure changed. Possibly this is related to the new ZF 8-speed trans. I'm not sure.

Glad to hear of another member of this forume towing their RAM flat-down. Just got our RAM and interested in finding out all experiences... tow bar, wiring method, braking system and so on.

I've towed the 2014 Ram 8 speed 4WD for more than 10,000 miles now. I use the M&G Engineering brake, Blue Ox Aventa 10,000 tow bar, http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-2014-RA...-/380727151906

The original subject of this post has been resolved. When I turn the truck off with the transfer case AND transmission in neutral, foot off of the brake, push and hold the start button until the truck shuts off AND the transmission switch moves to Park (all by itself). Then release the start button. Then bump the start button (foot OFF the brake) to cycle it to OFF.

Interesting; thanks for the info. I'll try that same procedure with my 2015.

By the way, I guess you're using the Blue Ox base plate... what did you do for tail/turn/stop lights?
