Exclamation What is max 5th Wheel towing on my truck 2011 6.7L 2500

Hello guys, just joined this site because I see a lot of enthusiastic/knowledgable individuals here. Hoping someone can shed some light on my question.

My truck is a 2011 Ram 2500 ST 6.7L , crew cab, 6.5 ft bed, auto, with 3.73 axle ratio, and has the high output with 800 lb-ft torque.

I have searched high and low and cant get consistent answers.

From what i was able to find, the 3.73 axle ratio can tow up to 13,200 lbs. The 4.1 is able to tow 15,200 lbs.

Question 1: What is the most I can tow legally from my bumper hitch?
Question 2: What is the most I can tow legally using a 5th wheel?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

i'm guessing your truck is 2WD and an Automatic? if thats the case then the ratings you have are correct.

your actual tow rating depends on how much weight you have in your truck.

the GVWR on a 2500 is 9,600#.. so subtract your trucks weight (lets assume 7,500#), that leaves you with 2,100# in payload. subtract driver, passengers, and anything else your carrying weights (lets assume 500#), which leaves you with 1,600# in payload. generally you want 10% tongue weight on a bumper pull, so theoretically you could tow up to 16,000lbs (with the right hitch)... but... your GCWR is only 20,000# so your max legal rating would be the 13,200# that Ram quoted. if you were towing a fifth wheel, generally the pin weight is about 15%, which would mean the most you can tow is about a 11,000# fifth wheel.

EDIT: i believe a 2wd weighs a lot less then what i estimated, but the example is still relevant

All though some people like to go off axle weights instead of GCWR and GVWR.. i guess the legality of that varies by state. but going of the axle ratings will give you a lot more capacity. the axle rating on your truck is 6000# so pretty much if you don't exceed that over your rear axle, people believe your truck can tow it.
