My truck is a 2014 Laramie 1500 with 8 Speed, Rambox & Air Suspension. I think the info is generic & applies to most truck models.
Finding a plug & play electrical harness for the lighting was the most difficult task. Most companies expect you to cut into a perfectly good factory wiring harness. I think that opens up a can of worms for future wiring problems. I found one company that does make a plug & play harness, TES http://www.testeam.com/products/item...harnesses.html
they sell their harnesses on ebay http://stores.ebay.com/TowWiringProd...=p4634.c0.m322
just remove the tail lights unplug them & plug their harness in, run the wires to the front of the truck it is a 4 wire flat plug. I converted it to a 4 wire round plug in the bumper on mine.
There are quite a few choices for brakes, I have air brakes on my tow vehicle and found the M&G Engineering system the easiest to install. http://www.m-gengineering.com/
Just unbolt the master cylinder & put the M&G cylinder between it and the vacuum booster & bolt it together. The A/C line was very close so I put a cushion between it & the master cylinder. The low fluid sensor plug just extended far enough to plug it in without extending it. I also put in their breakaway system. I mounted the air line and the breakaway switch onto the front bumper, just plug in the air line from the tow vehicle & it's good to go. I used the holes for the front license plate to mount the electrical & pneumatic connectors.
I chose the Blue Ox Baseplate for the tow bar. I don't think it matters much which brand you pick, I just happen to like theirs. It was an easy install with just a few holes to drill. They specified a 17/32 drill bit but I just used a 1/2" bit which worked fine. I had to grind down a couple of edges on the baseplate slightly to get it to fit.
The instructions for putting the transfer case into neutral were slightly wrong. The manual states "Turn Engine Off. On 8 speed transmissions the shifter will automatically select park when engine is turned off
". It does not
automatically select park, you have to shift it manually. A phone call from Ram Engineering confirmed that the manual was wrong.
I have been very satisfied with the Ram as a toad and the towing equipment has worked great.
