I just replied to this in the electrical section .. Was working on getting it moved over but here is what I said.
I have done mine and just redid my back one yesterday. Just tape off areas you are worried about overspray. Make sure the surface is clean.. And then before peeling anything get a sharp razor blade, box cutter and make sure to cut out the chrome so it is not attached to any spots you have to peel off from overspray.

Yeah it happens.. I sent a message for the old thread to be removed as it is no longer needed.

I have fully eliminated all of my steel/ chrome from my truck with mostly plasti-dipp.. Bumpers, Grill, emblems, gas cap because it was marked.. Love the stuff. It is actually very strong for a spray can application.

All silver and black now.

also I usually wash everything with dishsoap then dry it and clean it with rubbing alcohol that way I don't get any bubbles from oil residue

What's the longevity of plastdip on chrome?

about just as long as anywhere else. I would assume. I've never painted chrome. Unless the second gen badges are chrome, in that case I have! and its still on there after awhile..

Any over spray "should" come off with some Goo Gone. However, it takes off spray paint, so I'm not sure how it holds up to car paint. So hopefully someone else can chime in if it works or not.

Surprisingly really strong.. The only reason I had to redo my bumper was because someone backed into my bumper in a accord. Scratched my plasti-dipp and broke my tail with their spoiler.. And I caused $2500 and collapsed their whole trunk... Plasti-dipp wasn't even scratched too bad eithor... And I peeled up one corner when i held a power washer right up to the edge of it when I was power washing out the mud inside my back bumper.

You can also get overspray off with a piece of painter tape and rubbing it against but is slow.. Just easier to tape the area off.

I just learned about plasti dip and have used it a few times on my truck now. Goo Gone on a rag wipes over spray off like it was dust. No elbow grease required. Couldn't be easier.

You don't even need to use Goo Gone on over spray. You can either wipe it off right away with a microfiber towel or let it dry and then you'll just be able to buff it off using quick detailer. Just take your time and keep the coats light and you'll be fine. It's pretty forgiving.
