Go in and ask if after Halloween they are going to change the color to Red for Xmas? Tell them if it wouldn't be acceptable for their bosses personal vehicle then it is not acceptable for your's and if they refuse go to the front office and ask to see the owner, not the manager the owner and show him/her.

Could have at least used black RTV. When I sevice my diffs I plan on adding a threaded fill plug to the cover.

Got my N08 recall done at the dealer today. Waited nearly a year. Not too impressed with the length of time it took to finally get it done, but at least it's taken care of......

Wow! Kind of makes you wonder how well they performed the rest of the job.

Unacceptable, I would be pi$$ed too.

On the bright side, it looks as if it will never leak.

I would politley ask for it to be redone. That amount of sealant means it is also pushed to the inside. A piece breaking off could easily plug an oil passage and lead to a failure. This is one case where overdoing it is just as bad as under doing it. Not to mention at a bare minimum it shows lazyness and lack of respect for customer property.

The Tech should have at least wiped everything down after doing the repair
I see finger prints & oil that should not be there for everyone to see

Now that the sealant has setup, the excess can be trimmed off with a razor blade or Exacto knife fairly quickly

At least the recall has been done, although they should have done a better job of cleaning up after themselves

I still can't get over the cover with no magnetized drain plug, that bugged me enough that i also have a Mag-Hytech cover
I can drain my fluid, look at the magnetized plug for metal shavings, if there are any, then i would remove the cover & look for the damaged part(s) & check the wear patterns.

Throw my hat into the having a conversation with the service manager ring. That is not the way it came from the factory and I would expect it to look the same as well as perform. I also would have used black RTV.

the colored gasket sealers are for different applications

Grey is for Suggested Applications: Designed for use on all cut and formed rubber gaskets, but also great to condition and extend the life of composite, paper and cork gaskets.

Orange is for
Axle assemblies, hydraulic parts, differential covers, fuel injectors and pumps, oil pans (cast), head gaskets, water pumps, bearing caps/brackets, gearboxes, hydraulic drives/motors, torque converters, timing cases, inlet manifolds, valves, etc.

Black is usually used as a gasket maker
it usually sets up hard, therefore it is not pliable

Thank you GT. Nobody realizes that the orange sealant is what should be used on an axle so that is right. The factory has used that to seal axles for years they just don't do a messy nasty job. I myself use just enough rtv to seal something because I hate the idea of it being pushed inside of whatever piece you are sealing.

Another thing I saw many times over is the newer Chrysler products use rtv on the transmission pans. Tech at both dealerships I worked for would put fluids back into axles and transmissions before the rtv was properly set up. you can guess what would always happen. Pissed customers with leaky parts.

The major problem with anything today is that nobody takes any type of pride in their job whatever it is. They usually aren't held accountable and don't catch any flack from customers so what do they care?

One service manager I worked with would actually pay a technician again for what he didn't do right the first time?!?!!?!?!
