Wow! Based on mntrider's comments dodge must have changed something. I'm at almost the same height as Denver where I am and I just did a road trip through the mountains last week average speed 70mph and got 11.5mpg. Admittedly without trailer, but I have lots of power. Blows the pants off the chev 350 I used to drive. Not saying I wouldn't like a dieselbut I can't complain about what I have.

So you got 11.5 on the highway without a trailer? That's what I said I am getting so I don't know what your point is?

My reference was to Ram Daddy who was saying he gets 11.5 towing a 7000lb trailer. I find that hard to believe based on my experience.
If I tried to tow that trailer here I would probably be getting about 5 mpg and have the peddle close to the floor most of the time.

I wish that was true but the dealer checked it out and said all is good.

You either need a new dealer or a 18 wheeler.

My point is you say you're barely getting 11.5 and can't barely pull itself let alone a trailer. But ram daddy pulls 7000 and I pull 5000 and even on hills I'm maintaining 60mph. And 11.5 mpg through the Rockies with no trailer at 70 mph I'm not overly disappointed. 375ftlb at 4200rpm means if I want to use a bunch of that torque then I'm gonna use some gas. And I don't think approx 380 miles for range to be that bad. After 300 miles I'm ready for a pee break anyway. Lol
If your truck is really that lacking in power then I guess I can see your frustration.
And as it seems some of these messages get misinterpreted just let me say " I'm not trying to be argumentative."

02, I was in your same situation. I had a 12 2500 CTD, about 11K on it. Was in the shop most the time I owned it. They finally bought it back and I got the 2013 5.7L. with 3.73. Yes you can feel the difference in towing, but the 5.7L does pull my 10,000lb TT with no problems. Only get about 9 MPG. RPM's will scare you a little, but they are built to perform at higher RPM's while towing. I do miss the EB but not the head aches of owning a CTD. Cheaper on maintenance, cheaper on gas, and as a daily driver it performs well. I was able to get a much nicer truck too for the money. It is a 6,500LB truck so it can be sluggish on take off unless you want to push it. It'll go just fine. You'll see you MPG drop but it'll get off the line no problem. All in all I'm very happy with it. Oh and with winter on it's way. I'm excited about not waiting 20 min for it to get to engine temp too! I may try another CTD in the future but not the near future! Hope this helps.

Flat land and sea leve. You've gotta love Florida. I don't have a lift kit just a level and am running GY ATS highway tires. The 11.5 mph is per the overhead computer. Computers never lie.

Looking at what other people have said I don't have much else to say. The one thing I do have to say is how often do you tow your trailer? If it's all the time and heavy I'd say stick with a Cummins. But, I've never owned a Cummins or diesel.
I had a 2010 1500 5.7 and it was badass, with no power adders.
I now have a 2012 Power Wagon and have no complaints about power. From Cincinnati to Sandusky (mostly flat) and no trailer I was getting 15.5 mpg. Going from Cincy to Nashville Tn I was getting 14.5. Still not bad. The true test will be this weekend as I'm going to DC.
I've towed a medium tractor/bush hot with no issues. I love my truck and the 5.7 does great for what I need it to do.

I own a 2013 2500 with the Hemi and I haul a camper in it, (3000 lbs) I get between 11 to 12mpg with the camper, I'm happy with the power of the truck but it doesn't have the pulling power my Diesel had in the mountains but it's not bad. But I like the price of gas and low maintenance. Real test will be with the boat or jeep being towed with the camper.
