Default 09 In The Shop

Guys and Gals I have a 09 Ram 1500 TRX4 that the check engine ligt was on. So I ran it by the dealer where I recently purchased it from. They said that it had a small mis-fire on the #8 cylinder and that they had changed the coil pack on it but no help. They said they were going to keep my baby overnight and try to find out what is wrong with it. Does anyone have any clue what's going on with it or had this issue?
Thanks

Did they tell you what codes were active? In order to diagnose any further you would need the codes and also describe any drivability issues you were having.

They said it was a code 8 I think and the truck felt like it was driving fine to me. My granddad had just driven it and said it ran as good as his 2011 Big Horn

Code 8 does not sound like a DTC code. P0308 is the code for a cylinder 8 misfire, perhaps that was the code. A number of things can cause this code,

Faulty spark plug or wire
Faulty coil
Faulty oxygen sensor
Faulty fuel injector
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter
Running out of fuel
Poor compression
Defective computer

Hopefully they can track it down for you, let us know what they say.

Just so happens my 2009 Laramie is in for the same issue, Misfire detected in Cylinder 1. The tech switched the plugs and coils to another cylinder but it is still throwing the P0301 code. Next is a leak down test for the valves. The only way I knew anything was amiss besides the CEL was a moderate idle roughness when not on the gas. Like you I hope they can figure it out. That Lifetime drive train warranty is paying off.

Good news good news just got the call from my dealer that it was the #8 injector that was bad. Dealer told me that he could have it back on the road and to me tomorrow. Best part is its covered under my warranty. So chief1942 that could be ur problem on ur #1 cylinder hope they get u going soon.

That's great news, glad they sorted it out for you. Just an FYI, I run fuel injector cleaner though about every third tank. Have done this since new. So far so good.

No joy for me yet but they have eliminated the plugs, coil and injectors as the problem. Hate these types of issues that turn into a 'replace parts till you find the culprit' approach. May have to hit them up for a loaner car if they take much longer.

RansRAM thanks for the advice. Any recommendations oh what type of conditioner to run through it this is the first gas engine truck I've owned

Chief1942 Hope they get you going soon. I know my warranty covered like a weeks rental and the dealer arranged it for me so you may can get your dealer to set something like that up for you.
