Default All along I thought I had purchased a Dodge

Did I get a surprise today during a visit at the dealer where I bought my new RAM Laramie Longhorn. I always thought that Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorns was an awfully long description and today the salesman that helped me with my purchase told me that technically it's a Dodge but really it's a RAM and that they were told to stop using Dodge when describing the new RAM trucks. So now I have to get use to saying RAM Laramie Longhorn. That's a lot easier to say anyhow.

Of course I'm sure all of you already knew this, right?

Yeah, but I still say Dodge sometimes anyway. If I ask John Q. Public off the street to name my truck odds are he'll say Dodge Ram.

It kind of make me wonder what the idea is behind dropping the name Dodge. I noticed that "DODGE" isn't anywhere in or on my RAM truck.

Basically they wanted to market them separately from the Dodge brand. Giving Dodge the sporty vibe and the truck line the toughness appeal. There's been a little talk of them branching out into more trucks with this but at the end of the day it's more image than anything.

If you decode your VIN number the truck is still a Dodge and as someone else said a lot of places will still look up the trucks under the Dodge make.

I still say I drive a Dodge as much as I say I drive a Ram.

I've noticed some online parts stores still have them labeled under Dodge RAM as well.

Your kinda right. The real reason is so they can end one brand without affecting the other incase one really starts loosing money. Same reason the viper is an art viper and no longer a dodge viper bc every dollar they loose selling them doesn't affect dodge or the ram brand.

So I take it on 13's and 14's they did away with the little tray above the radio that says DODGE? I guess I'm with you as well Asur, my 12 is a halfbreed too.

Not sure about the '13's, but the only place on my truck that reads "Dodge" is right above the radio on the plastic bezel.
