Default Transmission questions.

I have a 98 dodge ram two wheel drive, and a 95 dodge ram four wheel drive. the 95 doesn't have a transmission and the 98 does. i have heard that you can take the tail shaft out of a two wheel drive and the transfer case will bolt up, is this correct? i was thinking about taking the transmission out of my 98 and sticking it in the 95 and get a new remanufactured transmission for the 98. need help

The 98 is an electronic trans while the 95 is hydraulic. The 95 computer won't operate the electronics.
The tailshaft that has to be swapped is the first thing that goes into an empty transmission case. You have to totally disassemble the unit to swap shafts, a lot of work and usually require new seals, etc., and it would be foolish to tear it down that far and not rebuild it.
I would leave the 98 alone and find a good used trans for the 95. The hydraulic transmissions are actually better than the electronic ones, so the odds of finding a good used one are really pretty good.
It's funny, I was planning the exact same thing with a 97 Ram and a rebuilt Grand Cherokee transmission, until I found out it would cost nearly as much as a good wrecking yard box. I will sell the Jeep stuff and buy one from a wrecker.
