Default darn @$%^*# Dash rattle!

Grrrrr... My laramie has been the sweetest truck I've ever owned. tight, quiet and comfortable. UNTIL today....

Now, with the temp dropping, I was driving to work today and there's a incessant plastic on plastic thrumming rattle coming from somewhere (I think) in the area under the center dash speaker. Or at least somewhere close. It's not related to the blower fan.

I probably wouldn't have noticed much, but since the cab's so awesomely quiet otherwise - it sounds like somebody's child got loose and is hiding under the dash with a damnable baby rattle and is deliberately torturing me with it.

Yes I can turn up the radio. But sometimes I do like to have it quiet as well, and I'm one of those people who are easily driven to distraction by a noise I can't identify. I'd probably be a useless candidate for torture. I'd either break easily - or fly into a homicidal rage and wipe my captors out in one fit of fury.. lol.

anyway - aside from that.

anyone here have a rattle and diagnose it? I'm bringing the truck into the dealer on monday, and I'd like to have a bit better explanation for the tech other than "something loose in dash"

I worked that kind of job once - and repair notes like that drove me about as batcrap crazy as annoying rattles I can't identify.... Besides, when I got repair orders like that - I was a smarta$$ and the repair slip would say "something tightened in dash"

I want it fixed, so I gotta be nice and helpful. the more info I give the tech, the better he will be about fixing it.

I have the same thing in my 2012 sport. I'm about ready to take it apart to find it.

Your 12 should still have warranty, let the dealer fix it

I brought my 2013 RAM sport in last week because of some strange front end rattles... turns out they where the front body mounts, dealer said sometimes they get water in them and make a rattle noise. I also had a strange rattle in the interior that sounded like it was coming from the passenger door panel.. well it turns out it was a loose wire in the ceiling of the truck. I do have the sunroof so theres more wiring up top apparently. anyway do you have a sunroof? it could be a few loose wires, I do understand you think its coming from the dash but sometimes you never know... anyways i would tell the dealer to check the front end bodymounts.

I've had a rattle in the center console area. It has been there since I purchased the truck. I notice it more with temperature changes. I think it's the plastic area in the middle of the console area that holds the cup holder and deep storage (area where 6 speed shifter use to be). I plan on taking it next month for a few other things.

Sound does travel in these newer Rams

the 2 transmission cooler lines vibrating can sound like a noise in the dash, they found some kind of fix for that

I thought i had something going on in my front passenger door, maybe the tools that i keep in it rattling when i hit a bump(s), i have most of them wrapped.
I have a feeling that the metal step ladder in the back seat area is the cause, i have yet to test that theory

wow... looks like I'll be chasing the darn gremlin for awhile...

I can at least duplicate the rattle by tapping on the speaker cover so I really hope it's somewhere easily diagnosed...

I do have the sunroof too.

Poor service tech. I'll drop him a gift cert for the bar if he actually chases it down.

I thought only Chevy's had interior squeak!!! In my younger years I owned two different Chevy's. Both were purchased brand new and after about 6 months, both became rattle boxes!

I've had one squeak in my 2013 RAM Sport and it ended up being the chrome trim around the center console. For some reason it wasn't clip all the way around the console. After re-seating the trim, all is good.
