Default Where to tap into the factory bed lights?

I want to hook up some under the bed rail LEDs and I would like to have them hooked up to the factory bed lights that are next to the third brake light.
Where is the best place to tap into that power?

Thanks

There are lots and lots of threads on this topic. I think the "factory bed lights" that you're referring to is the cargo light (activated by a switch on the dash).

Here is a pretty good thread that gives some good info
http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread....&highlight=LED

I just did a quick search to find that one. A more complete search may give you better results, just be prepared to receive lots of "hits"

Can you also try PMing either Asur or SS4Luck. I think that they're some of the biggest LED guru's that we have on the Z.

Good luck

Exco

bring your wiring up under the rear seat on the passenger side, there is a hole there you can come up in, run the (+) wire into the cab and under the carpet to the area under the sill, there you can tap into the wire that goes up to the cab bed lights, if you pull off your cab 3rd brake light you will see the wire color that you need to tap into, find that wire under the sill and your done, I think on my truck it was the tan/purple wire, but not all trucks are the same, check yours and you will be good.

^^ What Asur said. I did this exact same thing recently. I installed my bed lights under the rails and ran the wires exactly as described here. I wired them to where they illuminate with the cargo lights in the 3rd brake light assembly when I hit unlock on my key fob. If I need them on longer than the 30 seconds or so, I simply hit unlock again. They also illuminate (again, with the cargo lights) when I engage the cargo light button on my dash in the cab. Perfect setup and it has proven to work exactly like I wanted and needed.

Good luck with your install! It's not all that difficult once you know which wire.

Okay, cool! Thanks guys. I will pull the pass side rear sill and start testing with my meter. What is the easiest way to locate the hole that you guys used, from under the truck? Does it have a rubber plug in the hole?
Kai, that is exactly how I wanted it to work, it seems like the perfect source of power. I keep my bed cover on almost all the time, so the existing bed light is fairly useless.

look under the truck around the area under the rear seat, you can even pull up the carpet and you will see it, plastic type plug, pull it off, pass your wires, I put a rubber grommet in the hole and then used Black RTV silicon to make sure no moisture would get through. The best way to find your wire, pull the 2 screws off your 3rd brake light and check the wire color codes, you will find that wire under the sill. You only need that one wire, its a Positive, use your body ground for the other wire.

My Laramie has a factory sub-woffer under the pass side rear seat. I'm not sure how that will complicate things, as far as finding that hole.
I have not looked things over yet. I was just collecting some basic tip before I start this job. Which sounds like it will go quickly.
I understand how to find the wire color and wire the lights. I was mainly looking for the info on where was the best place to tap that power.
Which seems to be at the pass side rear sill. Thanks again.

On my 2013 the wire you are looking for comes down the drivers side door seal. My wire color was white with brown stripe. Yours may be different.
