Default Overhead computer

When I bought my 2002 Ram 1500 the overhead computer was not working and the rearview mirror has been replaced with a cheap autozone one.
Is the computer tied to the mirror somehow? Should the computer be working without the rearview mirror?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Unless the mirror had a light sensor in it, it shouldn't have anything to do with the overhead computer. That computer should be tied into your main engine control harness

Finally got the overhead display working...looking for a mirror now. Seems it should be auto darkening.

I recently upgraded my overhead console to one with a sunglass holder. (Very easy mod BTW) When I had it torn apart I noticed the computer and the mirror are completely separate from each other. I have a base model 04 Ram QC with the 5.7L engine so nothing too fancy here.

The overhead console bolted right in, I just had to trim the headliner. The mirror had a separate harness that was plug and play. So I went on eBay and found one for 14.00, plugged it in and it worked flawlessly.

If you unscrew the overhead console reach up in the headliner and feel for a loose harness... that should be for the mirror.

Hope this helps!
