Talking finally built my new sub box.

after months and months of not doing it, i finally did it. I planned on building it entirely but a good deal came up for a pre fab box.

Started with my two 10in Memphis Power Reference subs

next was to stick a sheet of MDF on top to mount my amp plus my 6x9s and have room for a 4 channel amp later

Got that all carpeted and cut the holes, stuck it in my truck and started running the wires.

Mounted the 6x9s

Heres how they look with the seat up. In this pic i have the middle seat out, but I removed the back of the middle seat so now its just the bottom part.

And thats with my underbody tubes that i have inside on.

All in all, I'm very disappointed with how little pictures I took.... Ill get some better ones up soon.

well, I was going to build it to specs, so this one that I bought is actually way too big, even though thats a really tiny box. Mine need 0.75 cu ft, and the box has 0.96. the old box for them was built to spec but i cant fit that in my truck, well i can, i used to have it in the middle seat spot.. this looks a lot better haha.

So I can tell something is a lot different, I might add a ton of polyfill or something. They just don't seem to be as loud whatsoever.

something is up with my 6x9s as well... they're distorting super early, and hell, they shouldn't even be distorting in the first place.

I love these things, super crisp and clear, plus if you dont want the wubs from subs, these pack quite the punch, and yeah, mine are on like 20ish watts from the head unit. hopefully they'll stop sounding like shit really fast when I amp them.

Looks good. I wouldn't add Poly-fill as it would be accomplishing the exact opposite of what you are trying to achieve. Poly-fill 'tricks' the subs into thinking they are in a larger box.

I would just build a custom box. It's worth it. I built this single cab box for 2 12's with 2.5 ft^3 of air space and slot ported to the passenger side tuned to about 33 Hz. Sounded great and hit very hard for those crappy Comp 12's powered with 500w RMS.

I never got a chance to carpet them, I got rear ended and totaled that truck shortly after.

Also, I would recommend using an amp for your door speakers and not using the 6x9's in the middle, so you get proper imaging. You want all your mid's and high's coming from the front. Bass isn't as directional.

wow, yeah, i knew that. I dont know what i was thinking.... I might just screw some extra boards in there to take up some space.

and maybe, its a lot of work bulding a box ^^that^^ designed haha. But more or less, thats what i was "planning" on making in the first place, not that extreme though. How much clearance did you have with that box? if you remember.

Also, i need something with a rack like that(it could be done with your box, but not as easy since those 12s sit higher. Like, i had to go obove that lip, not sit under it, if you get what im saying haha. I cant put my huge ass amp under the seat like you did. It's ginormous, maybe if i get a new amp as well i can.

And yeah, id rather not have them in the middle of the cab, it sounds good, but it is weird. BUT i cant have them behind the seat because the stick out too far.

And the next thing Im going to buy is another set of those same 6x9s, or the same 6.5's for the front as well as a JBL 4 channel amp.

For that box, I believe the subs needed 1.75 cu ft a piece. I was trying to get as much air space in that box as possible without sacrificing leg room since it was a single cab and I have long legs. I believe I had to move the seats up about 1 or 2 clicks, but nothing major. I made it so that the angle of the front face of the box had a good incline so that the seats could butt up against it. It took me about a week in total for all the measurements, ideas, construction and calculations (ported boxes require a lot of calculations for port size). I also changed it from 2 ported chambers to 1 single chamber and had to redo some stuff.

Pics of the seat room:

My console hinge was broken, so it was crooked.

The reason I mounted the subs that high in the box was because of the slot port on the passenger side (you can just barely see it in one of the pictures). I could have mounted the driver's side sub lower, but I wanted it to look symmetrical.

This was in an 02 GMC Sierra single cab. Since you've got a Dodge, you have more room than I did. Also, with those 10's, you can make a small box with a decent amp rack.

I would get a good 2 channel amp for the front with 100w rms or so, and a good set of 6.5's for the doors. That's what I did and the music was very clear, even at high volumes. I had 4x6's in the pillar (would have gone 5 1/4's with adapters if I had to do it all over again) and ran those off the rear channels of the head unit for a little bit of fill. Then I had the 2 12's running off a 500w RMS mono amp.

It was a budget build for sure with stuff I had left over. But it was set up right and sounded better than people's ride's with more expensive equipment. Don't be afraid to make a custom box. The only real cost is a sheet of MDF, carpet, glue, and screws. Get some ideas off the internet and join an audio forum like DIYMA. They can help you out and give you ideas. They really helped me out a ton.

If you have any questions, let me know and I can try and help you out.
