Default Hard downshift while slowing down

So I am new to the Dodge Ram, mostly because just about every person I knew growing up who had a Dodge had to replace the transmission at least 1 time. Now days though it seems like less of a problem and I have a few friends who have had Rams since 2002 up til now and they haven't had transmission issues, so I bought one to replace my '13 Silverado. I bought a '14 Ram Sport, I love it so far other than this one thing. It seems like almost every time I start to slow down for a stop sign or traffic light, the truck down shifts so hard I can feel it lunge forward. Just the other day I had my dog in the back seat on top of the flap the folds out from under the seat and it downshifted so hard he actually fell down. I don't think this is a normal thing, but with me not ever owning a Dodge before I figured I would get other opinions. Is this something anyone else has exprienced? Is it normal? If not is there a fix for it or do I have to wait for it to actually break?

The old Dodge transmissions were weak. The new ones are pretty stout, but complicated as hell. Take it to dealer, it's not normal, no it won't break. Might need a reflash of the TCM. If it makes you feel better, my 05 has 190,000 miles, sprayed a 100 shot at the track, towed a 32' fith wheel, beat the hell out of it. My dyno tuner has it shifting firmly at 6250 rpms for my hot cam. BTW, my dad just bought a 2014 Silverado, it came with a 4 speed auto.

I have a one week old Ram with 5.7 and 8 sp tranny and have the same problem. Although not as drastic it seems to downshift by itself while coasting to a stop. really aggravating when slowing with your foot on the brake as it is more pronounced when it downshifts. I can actually see the rpm go up from around 1200 to 1500 every time it downshifts. First tank of gas and getting 15.4 mpg

Thanks Hornet.
Looks like a trip to dealer is in order. After 1 week! Confidence not too high in Mopar at the moment.
