I go by as close to 6,000 miles as I can. The book say 7,500 and unless it's an unforeseen problem with me sick or something I would not go that far.

I am unsure is I want the dealers Pennzoil or not just yet. We only have about 1,600 miles on it now, so I got time to think it over. I also have 4 free oil changes at the dealer where I bought it.

any suggestions on what brand of oil is best? The dealer says the Penz is made according to Ram specs. I am not too sure about that. I really don't like Penz oil.

I read somewhere that you are supposed to use the factory oil in Hemi's with MDS or it won't work like it should. It could be BS or could be attributing to your loss in fuel economy.

The MDS would not be affected by the brand or type of oil used (dino or synthetic, Penzoil or Redline), but it DOES make a difference if you use a different weight than recommended, which is 5w20. If a heavier weight is used, it can cause issues with the MDS function.

I picked up my truck three weeks ago. While getting the fifty cent tour of the dealership I asked the service manager how often he recommended that I change my oil. He said "when the indicator comes on". I then asked what kind of oil. He asked me which engine I had. When I said "Hemi", he said "conventional".

I'll be interested to see if they put in a window sticker 3K miles, like they did when they changed the oil in my daughter's Nissan.

My dealer did, but I think they just want my money. There's no way I'm only going 3000 miles on synthetic before I get it changed.
