Post JBA headers and y-pipe

Question for anyone: I am planning on doing a Mopar CAI and then adding JBA headers and Magnaflow cat-back to my Ram. If I also do a y-pipe from Magnaflow (Part #10778), will that affect the headers installation? Thanks. I will not do these all at the same time, you know $$$$ issues, so CAI first, cat-back second and headers last. What do you guys think????

I imagine you're talking about using the y pipe to connect the two headers into the single OEM 3" pipe? If that's the case then I don't foresee any problems with that. Either way, you'll probably have to do some custom work from the headers to the y-pipe because it looks like the JBA headers don't go all the way back like the American Racing or Stainless Works ones. Maybe someone with more expertise can chime in?

If you really want to save some $ though, you should think about just a muffler swap instead of a complete cat-back. The stock exhaust flows pretty well...minus the giant muffler in the middle. I just swapped to a Borla XR-1 welded into the stock set up (muffler + Y pipe $160, labor $190) vs complete cat-back (about $820).

Just something for you might want to think about

Which Magnaflow Catback are you looking at?

GSE, a shop I just called confirmed what you said. Told me not to waste the extra money and just get a muffler swap. And yes, I was thinking about that y-pipe connection.
grub, I was thinking of the cat-back part #16869. There is a thread where BlackRamHemi just about sold it to everyone. Looks great. Idk now, need to think about it. Would love to save the extra money, butif there is a benefit of the cat-back then I will do it...

Doing the y-pipe wont affect the header installation if its done right.

The guy who did my y-pipe didnt quite line up the flanges to the manifolds 100% - the way it sat was good enough for the stock manifolds but when i went to install my headers i had major issues getting the header and the midpipe to seal properly. I ended up having to re work a flange seal that was for chevys, took a little bit of tinkering but its not leaking anymore and im happy to have installed them.

CAI is a good way to go for a first mod.

I wouldnt bother with a cat-back set up - just get a magnaflow muffler welded in and have the resonators removed (optional), while they are at it, it would be good time to get that y-pipe in.

Just spoke with another shop and they told me the same thing. No need for a catback. I guess if they say it it must be for a reason. I just hope removing the resonators won't be a problem here in California lol

Resonators are specifically for sound and don't do anything for emissions

Just curious guys. Which Magnaflow muffler are you using to swap out the stock muffler?

I run Borla Cat backs on my Ram and on my RT Magnum. Love the sound and my Magnum has mds, no drone. I also gutted my cats on the Magnum, sounds radical.

OK, after reading a lot of threads and especially Grubber's posts, I am settling for the Magnaflow 16869. Just need to find a good price and decent shop that will do this along with the y-pipe 10778. I wanted to do the CAI, but I will start with this cuz I want the sound and then CAI and finish with the headers (too much $$$$$ in one shot, if you know what I mean). Thanks for the input guys.
