Lets put it this way.. I don't have a before of my truck but I added 5" tips to this Flowmaster 40 Delta flow series muffler.

Now I don't think larger tips make the exhaust louder... rather a straight through design of the tip makes it sound louder.

On my Jeep I heard no difference when going from 3" to 5" tips which is good as i wanted it to stay quiet.

I've read a couple threads on here where people say that the larger tips make a deeper sound. Not so much louder but more of a deep rumble

There is generally very little change, now if you get a fairly long (18"-24") and run a 5" or 6" tip those will act as a big echo can and make your exhaust fairly louder, Joe's Mango truck is a good example of this, he has a magnaflow strait through muffler and some gigantic tips length wise that are 6" tips I believe (they may be 5" I do not remember) and his set up is a bit louder than factory tips with the same muffler.

I just decided to read this thread and I'm brought up in it!

Eric, yes the tips I have made a gigantic difference in the sound of the truck. A lot deeper tone and a hell of a lot louder. Mine are about a tad smaller than 6", and roughly 20" long. I have the 18" Magnaflow with resonators removed, all the rest of the pipe is stock. And when I say huge difference, I mean huge difference over the stock tips w/ resonators.

What type of tips are you running and is there any drone?

I think I'm gunna do the 18" magnaflow with 5inch tips and keep everything else stock. Anyone know if it would be better to leave the resonators or remove them? I want it to sound good, but not obnoxious and little drone as possible.
